The risk of divorce is higher for men who are not employed full-time. This means that, a typical couple married after 1974, has a 2.5 per cent chance of divorcing in the next year, if the husband works full-time. However, if he works part-time or does not work at all, the odds rise to 3.3 per cent
Harvard study shows women are more likely to divorce men who don't have breadwinner status | Daily Mail Online

According to this study from Harvard University researcher Professor Alexandra Killewald earlier this year, women are more likely to divorce men who are stay at home dads. The study is called "Money, Work, and Marital Stability: Assessing Change in the Gendered Determinants of Divorce."

The research shows that women and men do not have an increased risk of divorce primarily due to financial struggles, but for some other reason related to male unemployment.

The data from Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) which was analyzed encompasses a period over which gender roles have changed. If I'm not mistaken, marriages from as early as 1968 until just recently were included.

The study is available from the American Sociological Association.

You stated "modern marriages". What percentage of "modern marriage" fall under these conditions? I am willing to bet it is far less than 50%

Read the paper, then get back to me.

Marriage is the leading cause of divorce.

Wow

Absolutely EARTH SHATTERING stuff ain't it?

One of the primary reasons for conflict in marriage is money. So my guess is there is a correlation between the husband not working full time and them having money problems.

So, if a woman is dependent on their husband financially they are less likely to get a divorce. That should be pretty obvious.
