Nobody could have predicted the insane cancel culture, woke and politically correct things that are going on in American society but these trends are likely to continue so this seems like an easy prediction.
Someday, not tomorriow, not next year, all WWII statues will come down
The majority of Americans who fought in that war represent everything that Progressives hate.
They were strong individualists who didn't want big government telling them what to do.
They respected the Founding Fathers.
They revered God.
They would have died to stop slow creeping socialism.
They believed in one National Anthem.
They understood immigration should be legal.
They didn't want men in women's public showers.
They believed marriage was between a man and woman.
They spanked their kids.
They practiced chivalry.
They taught their sons to not be sissies.
They liked guns.
They trapped fur bearing animals.
They smoked cigarettes.
They didn't tolerate laziness.
By today's progressive woke standards, these guys were all monsters. I see nothing to stop the cancel culture trend. In one era you are a hero and in the next you are a villain.
It will still be a few years until the last WWII vet dies. Look for the cancel culture crowd to start a smear campaign after none of them are left to defend themselves. That's how cowards operate.

WWII vets will be on the wrong side of history with liberals though because of who they were as individuals. I don't think anybody will complain about winning WWII. That is why certain monuments will stand but individual statues will fall. Future generations of liberals will be sickened by the men but not what they accomplished.

There isn’t a “trend”. Tearing down statues to traitors that should have never been put up in the first place isn’t a slippery slope.

The Revolutionaries in the War of Independence tore down statues to King George. Was that “wokeism”?

I was very specifically only talking about what different generations would consider “horrific”.

And yes, I think the statues to the Founders should stay. They weren’t traitors who murdered other Americans in order to keep other people as slaves.

The average WWII soldier's social views were more conservative than mine. If they could've seen the future they'd have probably mutinied.
