Because of his incontinent use of it, the rhetorical mustard that the president slathers on every subject has lost its tang. The entertainer has become a bore, and foretelling his defeat no longer involves peering into a distant future: Early voting begins in two states (South Dakota and Minnesota) 61 days from Sunday, which is 107 days before Election Day.

Never has a U.S. election come at such a moment of national mortification. In April 1970, President Richard M. Nixon told a national television audience that futility in Vietnam would make the United States appear to the world as “a pitiful, helpless giant.” Half a century later, America, for the first time in its history, is pitied.

Under the most frivolous person ever to hold any great nation’s highest office, this nation is in a downward spiral. This spiral has not reached its nadir, but at least it has reached a point where worse is helpful, and worse can be confidently expected.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those who aren't aware, George Will was once a regular commentator on Fox, a lifetime Republican and Trump supporter. He left Fox in January 2017 claiming "it's their toy", and he left his support of Trump there too.

Steve Schmidt, also a lifelong Republican and campaign chairman of John McCain's campaign said:

"There was a real lack of imagination on the part of the American people four years ago about the capacity for someone like Trump to cause real tragedy. We should all be woken up now. We should be paying attention and this man must be defeated if there's going to be any chance to come out of this. Otherwise, the American that was will be no more. We'll be a rich country, we'll be a powerful country militarily but we won't be the preeminent country in the world anymore and that will be the singular result of Trump being the 45th president of the United States."

George Will is a hack

if the Republican party was still like George Will i'd probably be voting for them.

as it is, George uses words too big for many Republicans.

George Will is a hack

Of course you would say that. The people with a smudge of integrity all fled Fox in horror. The people with intelligence and non-partisanship, left Fox. The people who held fast to the values and ideology of the GOP, left Fox.

And those poor, pathetic souls who clung to Trump as their savior will now be made to suffer the cost of those blind allegiances against the United States.

Suffer how so?

George Will is a hack

Not at all. He was one of the last remaining Republican intellectuals. Now, he's just a conservative intellectual. That's why he's no longer a Republican. Not because he's a hack (he's an intellectual), but because he's conservative.

Your 'god' will lose and even more than that, he's going to end up (eventually) doing jail time. And you will look into your rear view mirror at the years you've spent defending this criminal and wonder what the hell you were thinking. You're going to live with regret as will all those that are still at his side.

There's no room for intellect or expertise in Trump's GOP, only graft and loyalty. Seig Trump!

Meh, what do they know......

Trump and conservatives have overwhelming support from white high school educated males, everyone else knows better. Not to say Democratic supporters are any smarter, but clearly a college education has a major effect on how we vote. Is it a coincidence?

Unless Repubs believe they're being, "brainwashed", having been exposed to new ideas about how to move our country forward, college educated voters tend to lean liberal. If having a college education makes them vote Democratic, maybe conservatives should promote mandatory education until only the 8th grade...

And lets say for argument sake, that doesn't happen?

come on. the most hardcore Trump supporters here (Confederate or not) are smarter than George Will. we can tell by their posts.

;)

I haven't seen any studies, and you may be right about the college educated leaning liberal, but I think what we're seeing this year is a complete rejection of Trump by educated people. Trump actually did okay with this demographic 4 years ago, IIRC.

What strikes me is the reversal of loyalties among working class white men. Forty years ago, working class men were highly unionized, and overwhelmingly supported Democrats. It was the Reagan economy that brought on the Yuppie (young urban professional), who overwhelmingly supported Republicans.

this post is so true.

Does this mean you don't like Trump anymore?

I'll respond with the wisdom of Steve Schmidt former GOP campaign manager for John McCain.

"We should be paying attention and this man must be defeated if there's going to be any chance to come out of this. Otherwise, the American that was -- will be no more. People like you are making it spiral downward.

Burning businesses wasn't that big a deal because they had insurance.

Remember when you posted that?

I am more than happy to go back and get the link for you.

Oh sure, Trump is having no effect on this downward spiral. It's all my fault.
