This case is entirely a media creation, as in any non-political timing context killings/murder barely makes local news. We KNOW the media WANTS these protests and riots because 1.) the media talking heads essentially called for them and 2.) the media is not pointing out the absurdity of protesting in California and New York over Florida laws.

In all likelihood, many Floridians won't care what happens to NYC etc. In fact, most people are in Florida having moved here to get away from places like that anyway.

Agreed.

I dont know about the case itself, but the whole riot thing is a bit of a media spin.

The media hopes therel be a riot, so it can sell more products in the commercial break between 24 hour wall to wall coverage.

Next to a war, a riot is the greatest thing on earth for the news channels.

The media is for-profit business. And virtually no one on it is a reporter, they are rage-cable-network 'editorialists" for which their job is to stir up as much **** as possible to gain ratings. That is their job and their employee and (high) incomes are dependent upon it. And between the coverage of protests and riots they incessantly called for, they run ads for soap, automobiles and how BP loves the Gulf of Mexico and the environment - and now back to the riot in L.A.

It is a rather bizarre reality when you think about it. "The police are shooting at rioters with bean bags... and now let's hear about the great new Chevrolet Tahoe SUV... on sale for only $34,000 plus all the tiny print you can't read... briefly, let's go see the riot in Oakland - where wise people buy Cherrios to lower their cholesterol..."

Yeah, riots are quite good for business as far as the news media is concerned. Judging by their coverups of things like the Bulgarian protests and the entirely peaceful overthrow of the ruling party and drafting of a new constitution by ordinary citizens in Iceland, I really wouldn't be surprised.

Anyone hear about the Iceland thing? Google it.

I would say social media has more to do with it than television media.

There are some message boards I'm reading right now saying police are using rubber bullets and bean bags on a group in LA. Oakland....that's just normal activity. Yes I think the media would like the pot stirred.

This is a part of it...

Riots are going to happen across the country in varying scales, and a portion of the argument is over an injustice because a black youth got shot by a non-black person.

So, by rioting these pissed off black people are effectively telling the country that only black people are allowed to kill black people, since across the country there have probably been several hundred black people shot by black people where nobody cares.

Now, the argument is going to be made to either attack guns, or the rights to self defense, because in this case, while Zimmerman following the guy might have been foolish. He ultimately was acting in self-defense in that moment.

Then the police are going to have to respond... Now, I expect any rioting will be limited, but if it gets bad, then the media will have ammo to call for troops on the streets, like we've been seeing increasingly violating posse comatatis(sp?).

And all this time the media will play both sides of the coin pushing people to riot and then pushing for the response they want to see politically.
