The main problem with the "good guy with a gun" slogan

"The ONLY thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

This slogan isn't meant to prevent gun violence, it's meant to prevent better gun control.
 
It's like drug dealers saying, "the best way to end drug abuse, is to have drugs all over the place freely sold, so that instead of being tempting by being illegal, people will get sick of drugs and bored of them, and will stop using them."

A self-serving, fallacious claim. Not that it's fair to lump the head of the NRA who apparently coined the slogan with drug dealers. To the drug dealers. Drug dealers don't have his level of corruption or promotion of mass violence in the country.
 
The slogan is ammunition for gun trolling.

Where was the good guy with the gun for 60 minutes in Uvalde? Yeah, you can't count on that can you? Ban weapons designed for war from average citizens.

All twenty or so of them were waiting outside for "backup".

A good guy with a gun isn't the problem. The problem is we live in a country where almost any mother ****er can walk into a store and buy an arsenal to kill a bunch of people without question.

Yeah, I wonder why at this late date that the police or first responders still are not prepared to face and defeat these lone gunmen. If we can send Ukraine billions of dollars why can't we spend a few here to have fully armed specific personnel at all schools? Imagine the image plastered all over the media of one of these lone gunmen with an assault rifle and body armor splattered all over the street in front of a school they couldn't even get into and everyone knew that was what was going to happen from now on if they tried to enter a school with a weapon.

You would have a point if other places didn't have mother ****ers. They do, and they don't shoot up schools.

They're frightened of rifles that can penetrate their armor and have no duty to protect anyway.

In other words they are completely useless.

Personally I think they should all be charged as accessories.

When I was in the Air Force I qualified with the following:

S&W .38
Beretta 9mm
M-16
M-4
Remington 870 12 gauge pump shotgun

Obviously the M-16 and M-4 are military weapons, but what about the others? Would you classify them as “weapons designed for war” since they were in the military inventory?

Then the Federal and local governments should make sure that prepared and qualified personnel are minutes from every school in the country instead of ticket writers.

Let's examine this more.

"The ONLY thing that stops a bad guy with a gun ..." put in other words: "You can't stop a bad guy from getting a gun."

"... is a good guy with a gun" put in other words: "..., so more guns is the only solution."

=>

"You can't stop a bad guy from getting a gun, so more guns is the only solution."

I'd be all for that. The only real reason they write tickets around here is to add to the city budget.
