LBJ said it. Johnson wasn't a socialist
Unfettered capitalism is either fascism or anarcho-capitalism that would crash the economy within 45 days and take the lives of thousands of people with it because capitalism is predatory. Do you support either idea?I was responding to the OP quote: " There need to be a binary choice between unfettered Capitalism, and "Socialism".

That was a very inopportune TYPO on my part, there.I was responding to the OP quote: " There need to be a binary choice between unfettered Capitalism, and "Socialism".

Yeah thanks for clarifying, I came off a bit confused. That was a very inopportune TYPO on my part, there.
I meant to say "there need NOT be a binary choice between unfettered Capitalism and Socialism".
Thanks for pointing it out.
And since neither I, nor ANY major political leader in this country is advocating for a Socialist economy....not even Bernie Sanders....your opinion piece seems a bit irrelevant.
Yeah, that was a really bad one. Kinda clouds the whole message of my OP.Yeah thanks for clarifying, I came off a bit confused.
2) Old Adolph used socialism as a tool to bring upon fascism.
3) I support a free market with little government interference. The markets will take care of themselves. Even the status quo is acceptable. I don't want to live in a system where one individual, either Bernie or Trump type telling me how to run my affairs.

“I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it,” he said. “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
--LBJ, speaking privately to his young press secretary (and future legendary biographer and PBS host, Bill Moyer) on the campaign trail in rural Tennessee, during the 1960 presidential campaign, in response to the prevalence of signage featuring vulgar and incendiary racial epithets at his rallies.
As a lifelong conservative Southern Democrat, turned progressive, LBJ understood the mentality of white conservatives. It's the political philosophy that was developed by former Strom Thurmond and Nixon strategist Harry Dent.
To put it all in proper historical context, one must understand that Dent's protégé' during the Nixon years, Kevin Phillips, would go on the be Nixon's chief strategist. Phillips' protégé during the Nixon years (i.e. Lee Atwater) would go on to be Bush, Sr's campaign manager. And Atwater's protégé (i.e. Karl Rove) would go on to be the campaign manager and chief strategist for the W. Bush administration.
Donald Trump's rise, and the entire "MAGA Movement", were built upon exploitation of the "Lowest White Man" principle. And, even in defeat, 48% of the country supported it.
And yet, the TRUTH is that poor and middle class whites AND non-whites actually share the SAME economic needs and interests...and enemies. Democrats understand this. African-Americans understand this. But white conservatives have been duped into voting against their best interests, by the "Boogieman" of Race. LBJ stated it accurately (and best) 60 years ago, but I don't believe many of us believed his words would still ring so true in 2020 America.
So again, it's no secret how and why white middle class (and below) white conservatives consistently vote against their own interests. Racial resentment and fear is the virus that continues to infect America. It's the virus that the wealthy exploit, shamelessly, to maintain power. And it's the virus that prevents America from being living up to its founding ideals. And it's the virus that will (unless confronted and neutralized) will lead to America's downfall as a liberal democracy.
Now, with Trump's defeat and demise...and with Trump's legacy as a failed, one-term, corrupt president ensured....there is, at least, some hope for redemption. But only if liberals, progressives and Never Trumpers grasp the reality that the so-called "Battle for the soul of America" does not end with Trump's defeat at the hands of Biden. After 4 disgraceful, shameful, demoralizing and embarrassing years of Trump's America, if decent Americans do not FINALLY understand (and embrace) the reality that bigots, racists and low-information "deplorables" can only be defeated (and not reformed or reasoned with), America will become the Roman Empire. The fall of the Roman Empire begin in 395 AD, and the empire was complete by about 476 AD (i.e. only 80 years).
It's time for Democrats and Never Trumpers to take on, and discredit, the "Lowest White Man" issue. The way to do that is NOT by attacking Trumpers, but by taking on the REAL forces behind the exploitation of poor/middle class white Americans and small businesses (and every other major demographic group, as well): Corporate America and a few hundred "ultra-wealthy" families in our society. There need to be a binary choice between unfettered Capitalism, and "Socialism". For 2 generations (and counting) weak-minded Democrats have failed in that public debate, during which time, the Republicans have LITERALLY sold their souls to (i.e. been bought off by) those very interests (i.e. Corporate America and the ultra-wealthy). It's time to do better.
America, this is our second chance. Wake up, and don't waste it!

The Democrats are going to **** it up, just like always.
There's is no doubt about that. Biden could do nothing but sit on his thumbs for the next 4 years, and he'd STILL do less harm to the country than Trump has done.Trump losing this election just might be a blessing in disguise.
The Democrats have a LOT of Trump's bullshit, corruption and incompetence to clean up first...fbefore than can even think about "f-ing" it up.

Fortunately, Biden's going to do a lot more than that.
1) Where exactly did you get the 45 days timeline ?
2) Old Adolph used socialism as a tool to bring upon fascism.
3) I support a free market with little government interference. The markets will take care of themselves. Even the status quo is acceptable. I don't want to live in a system where one individual, either Bernie or Trump type telling me how to run my affairs.
Also hearsay... LBJ said that he's have those niggers voting democrat for 200 years.
People are growing tired of people like you, but your not equipped enough to see it, or understand it if you did.
Yeah, they gotta kill all those jobs and get rid of the best economy in 50 years. They do have a lot of work to do.
Hitler was never a socialist. he hated socialists, communists, union leaders, and liberals, and they were among the first sent to the camps.
How do you fear that Bernie would tell you how to run your affairs? What are you afraid of happening in a socialist democratic society?
Hitler blamed the problem on Jews and the Treaty of Versailles that crippled Germany after the war.a) What was the tool that the german lunatic used to brainwash the masses ? What was the key to enter the mind of the german people ? Answer: SOCIALISM.
2) I don't want to live in a society where individuals that never produced or delivered a service, like Bernie have a say in policy on how the private industry should be run.
3) An acquaintance that did business in his state put it well: "Bernie is like Moses, tells the people to go forward in the sea but he does not go in first".
Bernie Sanders has spent his life in public policy and has continually fought for the underdog. I respect that.
The political system is obviously broken and Donald Trump and the GOP are evidence of that disfunction. How has Bernie divided people by fighting for the rights of minorities and the economic stability of the middle class? I'm sure that the majority who seek to trample the rights of minorities, as well as the rich, don't like Bernie but you can't please everyone. Your religious beliefs are not a license to deny others the very same rights that you enjoy, nor is profit a right.Bernie Sanders has spent his life in public life dividing groups & individuals and provided an outlet for personal failures to be blamed on the "system"

Is that what you believe? Why would I do that? Not sure what you are talking about.
"the rich" "religious beliefs" "minorities?!"
Trotsky would have sent you to churches, synagogues and places of worship to tell them: Priest, Rabbi time to close down, we are living in a new enlightenment world.
It is so interesting to observe the dynamics of groups. Each side thinking they have the moral high ground.
