1. A lost battalion?
2. The Pentagon assures us the 100 men of 3rd Company, 201st Army Corps, are not lost, operating last week on the Laghman/Kunar border, where they were AMBUSHED after being BETRAYED by one of their own.
3. No lost battalion, claim our commanders, just "10" dead and "20" missing.
4. This bloody, hi-body-count battle is ongoing now 9 days, according to the Times' World page.
5. Afghanization, quite clearly, is a cruel chimera, Karzai's corps are completely capricious.
6. The Wikileaks revealed our Pakistani "partners" have been selling out our soldiers to the Taliban.
7. With so much talk of Obama pulling out in just 10 months who, with any comprehension of realpolitick, could really blame our allies for drifting off and slyly looking out for themselves?
8. This war, profoundly problematic from the start, becomes impossibly more so due to an almost moronic mismanagement at the top.
9. Ask General McChrystal.
10. Record numbers of Americans are getting killed over there (60 in June, 66 in July) for what?
11. There isn't even an Al Qaeda presence in Afghanistan, less than 100, centcom asserts.
12. Afghanistan is the wrong country, it's the wrong war, the Taliban is the wrong enemy.
13. No less than John Kerry suggested including IRAN in our negotiations in the region.
14. Richard Holbrooke holds out for the Haqqani.
15. Exactly what is Petraeus' plan over there?
16. What's our exit strategy?
17. Why must these measures change every month?
18. We have no chance of a stable region by July, we're bogged down in Helmand, delayed in Kandahar.
19. And now, AMBUSHED outside Kunar.
20. A battalion lost?
21. What for?
22. Pray.

An ambitious military operation that Afghan officials had expected to be a sign of their growing military capacity instead turned into an embarrassment, with Taliban fighters battering an Afghan battalion in a remote eastern area until NATO sent in French and American rescue teams.
