One of my geek-outs is watching storm chasers go after live storms, be it blizzards, hurricanes or tornadoes.

Reed Timmer, of Discovery Channel fame, has a live stream whenever he chases:

Others I follow:
  • Connor Croff:
  • Vince Waelti:
  • Ryan Hall Y'all: ( not always a chaser but a reporter/streamer)
  • Max Velocity: (another streamer, not so much a chaser)

Big event today is a widespread event ranging from the Red River Valley (Tex-Homa) all the way up through Missouri and Illinois.

Tomorrow is potentially a dangerous day for Indiana/Ohio.

Calendar hits April and all hell breaks loose. Welcome to springtime in the USA.

Some of the predictions of enhanced or moderate risk events haven't panned out. Totally an armchair meteorologist but some of these events have been predicted on days when the temps are only in the high 60s or low 70s. In my experience, storms are more likely to break out when there's more intense heat and humidity in the air, more like high 70s and low 80s. As we get into mid to late April, I think we're gonna see some wild shit.

It’s already petered out here. They were talking large hail and the like this morning but pfft.

Reed Timmer's chasing a storm in North Texas that's looking promising. Probably won't be a Cat-4 or anything like that but something may drop. Heading toward Springtown,Texas, which is northwest of Fort Worth.

Other chasers are in Missouri, probably more to set themselves up for tomorrow's chase into Indiana and Ohio than they are to hold out hope for any big ones tonight. What was predicted was activity across Oklahoma and into SW Missouri. Doesn't look like that's a big setup at the moment.

One thing you realize after watching these guys is, they cover a lot of ground in a day and in a week. They're always driving. Their diet is shit. They don't get out and walk or move around much. I hope they work out in their downtime, lol.

I’m very familiar with the area. I used to live in Ft Worth and have friends who live in Springtown. I think he is chasing ghosts! Missouri is a better bet. Maybe Southeastern Oklahoma.

Yeah, he's looking at what radar's telling him. Sometimes the radar plays April Fool's jokes. I think the bigger chase will be tomorrow.

I bet it's 'leisurely' for them. 😁 But, if it's your thing, drive onward!

Just up out of the river valley out to the east side of Cincinnati. Local doesn't seem too pressed.
I am in one area where the geography would tend to disrupt formation as the weather passes in the usual, into NE.

I can pretty well make a large circle connecting the points of touchdowns around here over a pretty good span.
Supposedly there was a bit of tornado determined damage around the year I was born. It was minor..

.

Pecos Hank is probably out and about like Reed is.

I remember that guy - haven't seen him as much lately. There are typically two types of people who chase storms: photographers & videographers, and meteorologists. I believe Hank is the former, and I know Reed Timmer is the latter. Timmer's also an inventor with several patents, including his 'dominator' tornado mobile.

Potentially a big day in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

Potential large one about to drop in Austin, Indiana, a ways north of Louisville, KY and south of Indianapolis

Another feed from Connor Croff. He and Timmer are approaching from different angles. Timmer's going through some heavy rains, whereas Connor's got a dryer approach.

Metro Louisville, KY major tornado now.

This is likely petering out in terms of violent tornado potential. Generally, there's not quite enough consistent heat to destabilize the air when the sun's out, but really worried about late April through late May. We may get some thrashers.

South Texas, Austin and eastward, watch out. Also Mississippi and Louisiana.

Dangerous weather conditions in OK and KS today.

Ryan Hall does coverage starting around 5 pm

Connor Croff with the chase and is already in action.

Other good channels include Max Velocity Weather, Reed Timmer, Vince Waelti, and Freddy McKinney.

Tonight is ominous. Everyone was amped up for late afternoon and early evening outbreaks. Didn't happen. Most chasers quit, but the threat amped up after 10 pm. There's now an outbreak of significant tornadoes late at night. If you're in the DFW area all the to Tulsa and into SW Missouri, be weather aware -- all night.
