It would be great if there was a self-aware MAGAT who could explain why they are OK with the lies, or how they came to believe in obvious lies. Taking a step back, it really is a fascinating phenomenon, witnessing something cultlike in real time on such a large scale.

Two problem:

1) Trump lied. Shocked and amazed.

2) Because Trump lies at the rate and seriousness he does it has desensitized us to his lying. So he basically lies with impunity because we’ve become inured to it.

It is a sad state of affairs when you can't believe a word that comes out of the POTUS mouth.
And the lies Trump continues to tell are so easily debunked that you would think his minions would figure it out that Donnie is nothing but a lying sack of crap.

Most of our leaders (Reagan, Clinton, BW Bush, etc.) have been lying to us for years, so we’ve long been inured to it. Trump and his predecessor are merely two of the worst examples of this most holy tradition of American politics.

I put trump in a different category of liar.

All politicians lie, yes. But most just lie when they need to. trump's lies are more akin to gaslighting. The very first thing I can remember him doing is trotting poor Sean Spicer out in front of the press corps and Spicer had to tell them that trump's was the biggest inauguration crowd EVER. It was an easily debunked lie, but it was also unnecessary. At least, it looked unnecessary at the time. Now it makes sense.

Repeating obvious lies became the acid test of whether or not you were a good Republican. You still have a hard time finding one that will admit that the 2020 election wasn't stolen. This is all necessary to keep up the Universe of Alternative Facts. If some Republican breaks the rules and speaks too much truth, that speaker is kicked out of the party and has joined the lyin' Democrats. Universe intact.

I don't think they can keep this going without trump, who has enough weird charisma to pull of the cult leader role, but it will be interesting to see what happens post-trump.

Can't compare the silly lies Trump spouts as a 10 year old knows more about history and facts than Trump His latest is L.A. would burned to the ground. Really? Tokyo was burned to the ground as was Chicago. He makes up shit like a child would do bragging about something. Add his hideous history of name calling makes him nothing more than a brat.

There is a difference between the average person who will tell 100 or more lies a day and a guy like Trump whose every word is a falsehood.

And Trump's lies are all concocted to deceive!
