I've applied to over 500 jobs in the past two years. I've gotten virtual/phone interviews for about 20. I have interviewed in person for less than 10. I've received offers for 2.

Retail, food service, IT, clerical.

I've had my resume punched up multiple times.

In the interviews, I am polite, friendly, and focused. Even though I do have ADHD, which makes it difficult to answer open ended questions (which seem to be recruiters/managersHR/etc's favorite form of question)

This shit is miserable

A friend told me at lunch the other day, she's looking to get back into the job market, that she's started using Chat-gpt and it helps quite a bit. You have to get into it first, takes some time, but then she started getting really good returns and refinements.

It sounds really interesting. Setting your own hours and all the flexibility sounds nice! I run the office for our company now and it's better but still a lot of times I'm out the door doing sales in person.

Are you full time at home? Can you move anywhere within the U.S. and still work?

Somewhat of an update. Got a job unloading trucks and stocking shelves.


Ended up falling this past Monday and hit my head on a steel support beam and getting a concussion


Workman's comp is not paying me for the time I missed, and won't for any time I miss in the next week because I wasn't hospitalized (and because I'm not full time, I am scheduled whenever they need me and schedules are only made a week in advance)


I can't return until I'm evaluated by an occupational health clinic. My job has no HR. My store manager handles authorizations. She is on vacation until Jan 5th

Maybe I ought to harass those temp agencies everyone tells me to apply to because this shit sucks

Yeah, you might want to use a temp agency. There's not a lot of recourse out there for most individuals without skills. And, even with skills, you are not looking at a good time.

Lie on your resume.

Get your friends to pretend to be previous bosses for references.

It's not like an employer is going to be telling you the truth about the position, and the penalty for getting caught is "not getting/losing a job you wouldn't have gotten in the first place."

(Please note that jobs connected to government have ADDITIONAL penalties and you should not follow my advice in those cases.)

Practice the interview questions you have heard with a friend or just in the shaving mirror. When you get an interview, google the piss out of the place in advance.

Some other questions and their answers:

1. Why do you want to work here?
"Because I need a job and I've heard nice things about this place."

2. Oh? What have you heard?
*parrot the stuff you saw on google that the company said about itself*

3. "What is your greatest weakness?"
"I haven't identified any pressing weaknesses."

Things to NOT do:

Do not ask about vacation time per year.

Do not ask about advancement opportunities.

Do not, at any point, have your hands in your pockets, cross your arms, or lean back in your chair.

I went into business for myself and was never happier. at first its scary as shit, but once the momentum builds up you are better off. You can deduct everything including cable tv!

I merely took my love of plants and gardening and went pro, as charging $65 an hour at the end and turning some work down simply because I could. Retired now but will never advise anyone to be an employee ever again.

I agree-----except the last sentence is not always true. I was in high-pressure sales once in my career, and it was the easiest job on earth to get, but 97% of the initial hires did not last a month. It depends on the job. I sold insurance in the 1970s and we had a 95% turnover rate..........both jobs were "easy" to get(mostly).....

I ended up in a career that was hard to get, and hard to do, and even harder to do well---and now there is a shortage of them........

except people get even more upset with you when their checks are put on a hold or deemed fraudulent

There’s so much competition these days. Plus with ChatGPT applicants can put together a resume that inflates their actual skills. Use your personality to your advantage. People hire people as much as they hire for experience.
