Anyone who grew up in the 50s and 60s remembers winters were much harsher than today. I, too, often walked up to a mile to school but I had my galoshes, coat and gloves. I was an Army brat so we moved around, mostly in the Midwest and Colorado. I remember being snowed in a few times with a few feet of snow in Denver. They barely get any snow these days.

I was at fort Carson in the eighties, I remember having to jump out the second floor of the barracks Windows so we could shovel the doors to be able to get out as they swung outward.

LOL. Not bad for barracks probably built in the 60s or earlier. I was there, as a dependent, in the mid-60s. Denver in the mid-70s. My dad was given a flight detachment command there (twilight tour).
