I’m sure the Biden water carriers will call this guy all kinds of nasty names. But he’s right. The Democrats continue to fail on so many levels relative to helping black folks.

And they’re starting to notice
——

This amounts to little more than gaslighting us into submission, into voting for a party that has long ceased to do anything for us. Because here's the ugly truth: The Democrats' agenda, specifically this new voting rights bill, is not actually about helping us Black voters or even American public. It's about helping the Democratic Party establish and maintain political power. It's not about protecting Black voters' right to vote, but about protecting what the Democrats' see as their right to those voters—in exchange for nothing.

If there is anything in this article that says the bill is bad, I sure didn't see it.

The party of No does not even have an agenda much less on that give the middle class a fair chance like the Dems want to do. Things like the child tax credit and help paying for child care are what the middle class needs. But the party of no says.....no dice we will spend the money on tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations so we can get their donations and use voter suppression and lies to win elections.

Yep, it’s fine with demorats for states to impose ‘reasonable restrictions’ on 2A rights, yet not so for voting rights. You won’t hear one peep out of demorats that requiring a valid, state issued, photo ID to purchase a gun from a FFL dealer poses a ‘discriminatory burden’.

Republicans refusing to join in on the bill is the primary roadblock. Everyone knows that. Same for the latest BBB plan. Democrats don't have enough votes in the Senate to overcome the filibuster.
Changing the filibuster requiring Manchin and Sinema is not the primary path for legislation and would come with its own problems if used.

Raising the SALT deduction cap is a tax cut for the wealthy, but demorats like that idea.

Yep, that pesky democracy nonsense got in their way. ;)

The Republicans voted against universal voter ID when Manchin's voting rights bill came up. They don't care about voter ID unless it suppresses minority voting. They know as well as we do the voter fraud is virtually non-existent.

Paying taxes on taxes is wrong. If a State takes your income you should not be taxed on it. It is after all an INCOME tax. Money you give to your State is not income.

Yep, one can pretend that was the entire content of “Manchin’s” voting rights bill.

Of course, that does not apply to the FICA payroll tax or to anyone not having enough in total deductions to make itemizing them worthwhile. ;)

The Republicans would not even allow debate on the bill. If they had problems with it then amend it. They want Republicans to control the vote and pick the winner.

Unfairly penalizing people in States that pay their way instead of relying on Federal money is sickening and wrong. How would you like a tax code that charges more to people in States that take more Federal money then they send to DC? That would be fairer don't you think? The welfare States have been getting a free ride for too long. Here is a list of how much Federal money each State gets for every $1 they send to Washington.

Red States Are Welfare Queens

  • New Mexico: $2.03
  • Mississippi: $2.02
  • Alaska: $1.84
  • Louisiana: $1.78
  • West Virginia: $1.76
  • North Dakota: $1.68
  • Alabama: $1.66
  • South Dakota: $1.53
  • Kentucky: $1.51
  • Virginia: $1.51
  • Montana: $1.47
  • Hawaii: $1.44
  • Maine: $1.41
  • Arkansas: $1.41
  • Oklahoma: $1.36
  • South Carolina: $1.35
  • Missouri: $1.32
  • Maryland: $1.30
  • Tennessee: $1.27
  • Idaho: $1.21
Does anyone else notice the overwhelming presence of northern "rugged individualist" states, like Alaska, the Dakotas and Montana, along with most of the South? Why it's almost like there's a pattern here or something.

Where can we find liberal bastions California, New York, and Massachusetts? California is 43rd, getting back only $0.78 for every dollar it sends to Washington. New York is 42nd, and one penny better off, at $0.79 per dollar. Massachusetts is 40th, receiving $0.82 for every dollar it sends to DC.

Go ahead and bookmark this article. The next time some smarmy teabagger tries to tell you it's liberals who are ruining the country and spending us into oblivion, kindly point them to the evidence that shows it is GOP states, not Democrat states, who are Welfare Queens. It is GOP states who spend more than they collect in taxes. It is GOP states who are out of balance, nationally.

Raising the SALT cap means either collecting less FIT revenue (from richer states?) or charging others (from poorer states?) more to make up the difference.

?????????????? How is a voting rights bill NOT for everyone ??????

BTW: I have no respects for anyone, including blacks, who feel the government is supposed to "do something for them". I got news for Ya = the person who "does something for you " is the person you see in the mirror. Any other train of thought is for losers, and you deserve what you have....++

.and BTW-----who are blacks going to vote for??? The GOP ???!!?? Get real.

From the link:

"The most insolent narrative created by the Democrats surrounding this entire issue is that requiring an ID to vote is prejudiced and racist. Supporters of this claim have argued that voter ID laws will disenfranchise the poor and minority voters who face hardships in securing an ID.

This, too, is revealing; the Democrats are saying the quiet part out loud: They have the lowest expectations for the most loyal of their voter base. There are plenty of things one needs an ID for that we never call racist, like buying a bottle of alcohol or driving a car. Why is it racist to secure our elections by asking people to prove they are who they say they are? It isn't. It's preposterous to suggest it is."

I have been making that point on political talkboards for years. Thanks for posting that link. Though I am surprised to see it on a left wing rag like Newsweek.

Again... penalizing people in States that have income taxes to pay their own way is not how to raise revenue fairly. Those in the the welfare States without income taxes can afford to pay more too.

Democrats are famous for delivering a truckload of worms with a handful of rice, and claiming the entire truck is filled with rice.

They also have a smaller tax base.

DUH!

Probably because it is a rediculous false equivelency.

Whether or not democrats care about African Americans, (tho I suppose I could list all the issues they have pushed over the decades that helped working people in general and/or Blacks in particular, or how republicans have at times done the opposite) that is completely different from voting rights. Democrats benefit when more people vote. Republicans have admitted this. What either party does when elected is besides the point.

So making minorities count jelly beans in jar in order to get a valid voter ID is acceptable to you? That is basically what these Red State ID laws are about. Making minorities jump through higher and higher hoops. We need a universal voter ID law with every State accepting the same ID that is given in the same way. That was in Manchin's voting rights bill that every single Republican voted against.

More bull crap liberal lies.

Black voters vote under the same rules as their next door white neighbors.

At least you see taxation as penalizing some people to give money to other people. That’s a good start.
