I agree, they were always looking for an excuse.

The ICE/NG deployments to blue cities in blue states was always about eliciting a response. When they didn't the response they wanted, they escalated. The MacArthur Park "raid", where NG and ICE loaded up to go to a park in a hispanic area was to elicit a a response. No one showed up to protest and act out so they showed up, walked around doing nothing for an hour or so, and left.

Before any shooter was nabbed, Trump was yelling about "the left" and the ghoul Stephen Miller was talking about going after the left.
