There are many, but to pare it to one, I would choose “The Travels of Jamie McPheeters” by Robert Lewis Taylor. It is a good children’s book and wears well as an adult read. It was a Pulitzer winner and there was short lived series in the early 1960s. Taylor has many titles and I have read many of them. I think he is in the Mark Twain mold.
