Well, would you look at that. According to the Dept. of Labor, Pell Grants can be used for not just college, but for trade school!

That's fantastic!

Er, but wait...that was already the case before the OBBB.

As long as a trade school is accredited, students could apply for Pell Grants since the program's inception.

They're treating you like fools again MAGA.

What kind of a hard hat is that?

The dreamy eyes. The chiseled chin. The fluency in Spanish (noted by the dark hair and eyes.)

I WANNA POUND NAILS!!!

Hmm…

Before this bill passed, Pell Grants—the main form of federal grant aid for students with low incomes—could only be used for programs that are at least 600 clock hours and 15 weeks long. That means many high-quality, short-term training programs—often designed to quickly prepare students for in-demand jobs—aren’t eligible. As a result, students who want to pursue those paths often receive no federal financial aid. Workforce Pell changes that. It opens up Pell Grants to students enrolling in shorter-term, career-focused programs. These could be in health care, IT, skilled trades, or other growing fields where employers need trained talent now—and where students can often earn a credential in weeks, not years.

It’s not unreasonable to expect grants to apply to trade school education as long as the trade school isn’t something like Trump University.

Yes, that was a change, but that is not what the DoL was stating in their tweet. They claimed that Pell Grants are now open for trade school education, and that has always been the case. Now, Pell Grants can be used for shorter term programs that weren't eligible before. But that is too complicated to explain in a tweet, so DoL went the lazy and lying route instead.

Agreed, but to assert that has always been the case (the OBBB made no changes) is dishonest.

Actually, no. I was strictly basing my OP on their tweet, which is to claim that now Pell Grants can be used for trade school because of the OBBB. That is a lie.

Yep they should have said “now Pell Grants can be used for more trade school programs because of the OBBB”.

What actual training program that is accredited is fewer than 15 weeks?

Hmm…

Several certification programs can be completed in 4-6 weeks, offering a fast track to new careers or skills. These include options in healthcare, IT, and other fields. Some examples include: Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Phlebotomist, Dental Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Web Development, and Computer Programming certifications.

Of course, many very short term training programs don’t allow their ‘graduates’ to make any more money than the program cost them.

Ones that barely reach anything, cost a large amount and leave students in debt

Trump U meets Trump trade school for the uneducated

Alberta has a few real trade schools, welders millwrights etc will be in 4 year programs with a mix of school and actual work experience, moving up from apprenticeship to journeymen at the end

At the end the person will be fully trained, and have worked during the process.

Not a tiny school with one welder showing people what to do to get a certificate but no real experience or knowledge

That would have been accurate, because you still have to attend an accredited school to be considered for the Pell Grant.
