"Just like you, I was opposed to the Affordable Care Act," Jeans told Ryan. "When it was passed, I told my wife we would close our business before I complied with this law."
But then he said the law saved his life. Soon after it passed, he said, he learned he had cancer and was given six weeks to live. He said he was able to get insurance, which allowed him to receive treatment, through the Affordable Care Act.
So what he is saying is that his very life is owed to other people being forced into commerce. I suppose we all need something to be proud of.
It's nice that he's advocating for it and making things awkward for that stuffed suit Speaker.
But we can agree this guy is just a jerk who reflexively opposed the ACA until he needed it to save his life, right?
or perhaps to being able to purchase insurance even with a pre existing condition.
Why didn't he have insurance before the cancer diagnosis?
I don't know. It may have been too expensive, or maybe he, like so many others, didn't think he needed it. What's the point? Should he have simply been allowed to die because he didn't have the foresight to purchase health insurance in advance?
Maybe that will be the new Republican plan: If you choose not to have insurance, then you've chosen to not be treated. If you die, tough luck.
BTW, "Pre existing" conditions will be kept in the new Republican plan.
After a seven-hour marathon session of votes, the Senate early Thursday approved a budget that will set the stage for repealing much of Obamacare through a fast-track process that doesn’t allow a Democratic filibuster. The vote was mostly along party lines, with Sen. Rand Paul joining the Democrats and Sen. Dianne Feinstein missing the vote as she recovered from a medical procedure.
— Defeated: Dem-led amendment preserving Obamacare's pre-existing conditions provision. The provision, which is perhaps the most popular piece of the health reform law, was defeated by Republicans in a 49-49 procedural motion.
— Defeated: Dem-led amendment allowing young adults to stay on parents' health plans. This is another popular provision of Obamacare, and the amendment sponsored by Sen. Tammy Baldwin would've allowed young adults to remain on their parents’ health plans until they turn 26. The measure failed by a 50-48 tally, largely along party lines.
— Defeated: Dem-led amendment to block 'legislation that makes women sick again.' Despite Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand's fierce argument, her proposal against stripping women’s health care services was defeated in a 49-49 motion.
That he should have had health insurance. That is the point. What you are doing is holding this irresponsible turd up as some sort of hero. Here we have a guy who wants to buy homeowners insurance after his house burns down. Now he is thrilled that he has been able to avoid paying for health insurance and now that he is sick, someone else gets to pick up the tab for his illness. That's a great example to set.I don't know. It may have been too expensive, or maybe he, like so many others, didn't think he needed it. What's the point? .
So you are stunned that conservatives don't support liberal programs?? Perhaps you should pay attention a bit more.It is amazing isn't it. Time after time, whether it's HC or HI, or workers rights, or pay, or taxes or whatever how the Republican Politicians keep voting against the little guy, yet the 'little guy' keeps voting Republican.
The little guy in the GOP base care more about gays marrying then they do their own finances and health and well being. I just don't understand the conservatives in this country anymore. They happily and willingly go out of their way to cut their own throats. Ignorance to the nth degree.
If you choose not to have auto insurance and get into a wreck: tough luck. If you choose not to have medical insurance and get into a wreck: tough luck. That's how insurance works.

Just curious. Do you think people in prison should receive medical treatment if diagnosed with cancer or other life threatening diseases?

Except that I didn't. Everyone wants affordable health care and health insurance. EVERYONE. The disagreement is in how we achieve that particular goal.Having affordable Health Insurance and Health Care are 'liberal programs'?
Thank you for making my argument.
Right. That would explain why the presidency, the House, the Senate, the majority of governorships and state legislatures are controlled by democrats. Oh wait...Until conservatives realize the importance of a single human life? I see you guys continually cutting even your own throats.
Explain how I am being screwed. The rich get richer and richer in this country, and while they are Middle Class programs are cut more and more. And you guys are so blinded by your politics and hatred of anything 'liberal' that you don't see how the rich and their Republican puppets are screwing you.
That has nothing to do with anything. Try to focusBut hey, you just keep that war going to make sure gays can't marry. lol

There are other ways to do it. Based on what I have read, it is most likely there will be something similar to HIPAA. As long as there is an unbroken chain of insurance, your pre-ex condition is covered and rates can't be increased.
