Texas Senate Passes Strange Education Bill

If learning the history of our country makes you feel proud, you're not learning our history.

Your abandoning of this discussion is accepted. You are dismissed.
Who says I'm abandoning this discussion?

Basically the entire period between 1800 and 1860 is just not touched upon. Sure... the Missouri Compromise might come up... but things like Dred Scott, Bleeding Kansas and the Fugitive slave act was left out.
Just left out? That’s appalling.

You don't know what CRT is, do you?
That doesn’t seem related to what Texas did. Talking about race history and how it impacts modern life is important.

The Texas bill is totally related.

Reading the article, I see Texas wants to return to teaching history much like my generation was taught. Founding fathers good, everyone else bad. Indians were basically friends, as in Thanksgiving, blacks were enslaved but then Lincoln freed them and everyone lived in harmony, and MLK came along to make it even better. In other words, they insist kids remain ignorant of the truth.

Like I said, this is the history we were taught in grade school and parts of high school. It wasn't until later that my generation learned the truth, usually by reading things on our own. It's a shame when you have to lie to the kids to maintain national pride.
Good for Texas. My only concern is that the law will go unenforced.

Lessons shouldn’t cause people to feel embarrassment and shame over being white.

I have seen no evidence that any of these lessons are designed to do that. Certainly no students testified to this at any hearings on the bill.

Although, to be fair. If alcoholism runs through ones family like racism runs through our history, the way to deal with the shame that comes with it is is to get its source out in the open, confront it and resolve to not let it continue. That is the healthy way to deal with sources of shame. Covering it helps no one.

They will try, but you raise a good point. Its hard to van the truth.

Again, I agree. And that's why the Texas legislators are trying to pass this bill.

What about the needs of the non-white kids? You know, most of them?

Because white people shouldn't hear things that might shame them?

I'm not onboard with CRT as I understand it, but you guys argue against it with language that reeks of cluelessness.

What’s strange? Looks like this bill is attempting to create a balanced curriculum rather than “America bad, white people bad” CRT is preaching.

I think it more about it won't be ALL THINGS BAD FOUNDING FATHERS by the leftist

Good for Texas
The left seems to operate on a binary mindset; something is either flawless and perfect in every way or it is totally corrupt.

Just left out? That’s appalling.
Yeah.. pretty much. Took Several trips to Jamestown and Williamsburg. Didn't learn a bit a Nat Turner.

Heck... it wasn't until I read this book.

That I found out that during the War of 1812 the British took escaped slaves out to Tangier Island and used them as a Marine force to terrorize up and down the Chesapeake Bay.

Yes, we already know this. You are on record here of preferring the whitewash of history.
Better than the BLMwash of history you’re advocating.

Well, founding a country based on slavery certainly is not "good." Or is it OK by you?
This country was NOT founded on slavery. From formation there were movements and efforts to abolish slavery. Captaining a slave ship was made a hanging offense in 1804. Most northern states abolished slavery in the early 1800’s. A slave state could only be admitted to union in tandem with a free state. We fought a war where 700,000, or 2.5% of the population DIED.

This bill has nothing to do with whitewash of history.

(You didn't read the quotes from the article that I presented, did you?)
Don’t was your time trying to convince Cal with facts. He’s immune.

You seem to be in favor of legislators mandating curriculum.... Will you be okay with a democrat legislature mandating curriculum in the future?
In the future? They’re doing it NOW.

I was talking more in a nationwide view.

LMAO... Sure, sure... the evil boogeyman is FORCING school boards to adopt curriculum and they are powerless.. The conservative victimhood rides again...

What’s strange? Looks like this bill is attempting to create a balanced curriculum rather than “America bad, white people bad” CRT is preaching.
LMAO... Balanced?

Well, US history can be pretty much distilled down to white folks versus everybody else, and the battle for everybody else to get in with white folks. It still goes on today. Thats why its so relevant. Kids know this, and kids know when they're getting dealt a hand of unitary patriotic propaganda.
