Texas Requires ‘In God We Trust’ Signs In Schools. A Man Wants Some In Arabic.

"In God We trust" is the national motto, are any of those other phrases?

Does it say CHRISTIAN God? No. You aren't for religious freedom, you are just for YOUR religious freedom and not others.

The motto is "In God We trust" the sign says "In God We trust" what exactly is your issue?

So what is a sign in a hallway not letting you do?

It's a statement that implies the school district applies to all school employees and students. If not...it's exclusionary.

Is exclusion something we want shared in our schools?

I'm not sure how we can justify the national motto being unconstitutional to be displayed in our schools

National mottos are jingoistic…..e pluribus unum was ok until 1956.

Do you speak LATIN? Why allow LATIN phrases in government buildings but not arabic? Seems you want this nation to be Talibornagain Christian.
“In God We Trust” is in English, not Latin. I don’t know what you’re bleating about with the talibornagain nonsense.

And to which 'God' is that in reference to?
If you say the Christian God then that flies in the face of the Constitution.

I'd say his argument and signs should be rejected because he is a retard from a different state responding solely out of his own hatred and stupidity, not because he believed it was right, needed, or necessary.

That's a bit absurd. Mottos are everywhere for a vast number of organizations and there are few if any that would classify such an innocuous phrase like "in God We trust" as jingoistic

e pluribus unum was ok until 1956.

E pluribus unum was never the official motto and even the lyric, "And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,” is in the star spangled banner.

We can recognize that maybe it shouldnt be our national motto anymore. As for it being unconstitutional, I realize this is a court case now, but it could have just been a decision by the school board to no longer display it. Not everything needs to be a major ordeal.

In all honesty tho, I dont believe in erasing all instances of our Christian past...because that is part of our history. OTOH, not all parts of our history need to remain (like slavery, for instance) but they also shouldnt be forgotten. To me, that motto is just something we could move on from.

Maybe have a national contest to find a new one. (Can you imagine? Oh the can of worms that would open up! Still think it's a great idea tho.)

Unconstitutional might not be the right word but it was the first one that came to mind. However, even if it was just a school board decision I think you have a hard time banning it as long as it is our official national motto.

To your other point, yes that would be a large can or worms. What would you change the motto to?

I didn't say it was. The excuse of not allowing arabic because it wasn't a primary spoken language is erroneous since we have LATIN language on government buildings.

“….wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross…..”

That's why I said it didnt have to be an ordeal. With rational explanation, as in, it's no longer inclusive or applicable to so many Americans, why not just a conversation with the school district to take them down? (And maybe they started there 🤷)

I understand that doesnt mean the board will respect those reasons. But IMO any hardline Christians that would refuse to hear the side of others would be wrong. And I'm a Christian...my faith is strong, I dont need to see it affirmed everywhere, nor want it imposed on others.

To your other point, yes that would be a large can or worms. What would you change the motto to?

No idea! But first I think the govt should give a few guidelines on what, broadly, they'd want it to be about. National perspective? National goal? National resolve? Do you have any suggestions?

Some we do and a lot we don’t. Latin is the basis of the legal language and terms used. Arabic isn’t.

All this talk about national mottos, english vs. latin is just a bunch of gibberish.

The bottom line is the school board is trying to use the schools to push their religious agenda. And that is unconstitutional.

I hope this man is successful.

Putting a religious sign in a public school is unconstitutional but we know the Supreme Court we now have will throw out decades and multiple precedent rulings again to allow the signs to be displayed.

It's offensive to people like me who aren't religious.

He is doing what I would have done. Followed the law and when the schools reject the sign, take it to court. I would love to see those hypocritical christians on our courts twist themselves into a pretzel to justify not allowing the Arabic signs.

This guy wants more "In god we trust" signs in schools?

What a loon.

Even use of the word God favors some religions over others that do not use that word

Buddhists do not trust god
