Texas power cooperative files for bankruptcy PROTECTION, citing $1.8 billion grid debt (and they need a bailout)

bankruptcy is a favorite tool of polluters once a large fine has been handed down.

I say put the electric corporation out of commercial ownership, fine the management at all levels then nationalize with ratepayers as the owners/BOD's.

Think ratepayers owner/cooperative LLC.

Freeze all of the assets.

Block all golden parachutes STAT!!!!!!
Thank you....

and I'd say... Jail the Main one for no less than 10 yrs in Federal Prison, with Fines of $10,s and $100's of millions. and lets get the precedence set that Americans will not tolerate the inhumanity of these Greed Monsters.... Energy is a National Security Factor, as well as it's a Human Health Factor.

We talk crap about China, but they would not even entertain the bullshit spin, they'd convict and execute them for the damages to society!!!
the lest we can do is Jail them for No Less than 10 yrs, Take Back some of the Money, and Make Sure they can never hold an executive position of decision making in any company that has responsibility to the broader public.

First off there was no reason for any unit to run out of gas.... if it had followed Federal Regulatory Guidelines, National Security and National Health concerns as it relates to these type of thing should have "Redundancy Systems In Place". There are place that get Cold Weather "Every Year" and they don't have these wide spread system failures.
No... this is nothing more than a Texas version of Enron...
_____
How Texas’ Drive for Energy Independence Set It Up for Disaster
Texas has refused to join interstate electrical grids and railed against energy regulation. Now it’s having to answer to millions of residents who were left without power in last week’s snowstorm.
______

Republican's ate it up, and Abbott took money, all on board as a gravy train based on "good time, sunny weather greed times" were set into motion.
these type of people repeat the same type of games, under different banner and names...
Yup. The Republican party loves to give out short term gains, but long term losses. It's what trump was all about. It's what the GOP and indignantly independent states like Texas are all about. You can court them. And you can bed them. But in the end they're the ones doing all the fkn.

This is pure right wing delusions... States like Kentucky, Virginia, W. Virginia, Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi and many other Republican voting states, live off of Federal Tax Money generated by the productivity in many states that are run by Democratic Governors... and then Right Wing People have the audacity to say who should not get assistance.

American needs to truly invest highly in "education" ... to void out the generalized folklore spread delusions of right wing mentality and its ideology.
States with the "worst of everything" when it comes to living condition, individual income, and every other thing.. is and has been "States populated by people who vote Republican".
It's the damnest thing, they are worst than crabs in a barrel... but eager to rush and eat up every bit of food that is put in the barrel.

Thank goodness that the Democratic Party is knowledgeable to respect the Civil, Civic and National Rights of States to be assisted by the Federal Governance, that supersedes the States Rights, via the establishing Federal Policy and investing to support it.
At some point... the Old Confederate Ideology will die out with these old people that don't know anything but to promote that craziness, because that's what they were taught. In 20 yrs... most of these type will be gone, and hopefully they have not infected too many of their offspring's with their lack of knowledgeable information and lack of understandings.

Young people today, are far smarter than these old heads, who think they know everything, but factually don't know anything, and continue to live based on CONFABULATED Folklore... Many can't keep up, so they try and slow and stagnate society.

I don't deal with such types in my daily work and living responsibilities. I know the times change, things change, and system change and progress develops continually... and nothing I can do nor want to do can stop that process. It's been going on before I was alive and it will continue when I'm not.

The best thing people can do for themselves, is be very discerning about how you allow what these stuck in the mud, stagnation motivated types try and push that does nothing but create regressions, follow by frustration and result to be a desperation to try to catch up, while having been made unequipped to keep up.

It's as stupid as some old goat ass, trying to tell a person, to go get a wired party line landline phone, because someone tells them its cheaper. or to hitch a mule to a plow, because it will make a man out of you... That kind of stuff is the fiction of "folklore". some will tell you, that its too much trouble to put gas in and clean a tractor and change the oil and have it tuned up, so they'd suggest you get a mule.

Know what to heed and what not to heed... because society is filled with many old people who are as feeble and mal-adjusted and stuck in fantasizing about a past that is already happen and times have changed and brought new things, new ways of doing things, all the while all some of the older types do is condemn innovations and try to desecrate and stagnate progress.
Right is Right, and that includes using the right technology and innovations development to do what old technology of manual process use to do.

You need to get some place that is 10 miles away:
Will you walk 10 miles, because someone does not have a horse and buggy, when a person drive up in an electric vehicle and offers you a ride? will you refuse the ride, because the car does not need gasoline? or because its not a buggy being drawn by a horse?
I dont know if id believe that. States with rates of poverty according to the SPM (supplemental poverty measure) which Obama's office came up with rates states like CA as having the most % of its people in poverty.
Then theres is this chart that looks at median incomes and is adjust for PPP or in the case of states RPP

you are free to believe what suits you ... The conversation is about "tax revenue and how it helps and supports other states" - California's economy is larger than some countries, so they pay more taxes than many of the states I mentioned, and those states receive money that in part was contributed into the tax system by states like California.

It is interesting when someone brings up "bad State governments" because they need some financial assistance. Do you consider the Federal Government "good" when it has been running a year debt for decades?

- I don't totally disagree that maybe some electric companies should be allowed to fail and go out of business in concept. However, how would you react if one day you woke up and found out you had no electrical power and the company is no longer operating and there is no timeline when a new company will start providing services?
Interesting thought experiment. I would think through bankruptcy court they would be divestitures and asset selling to other companies who wanted to try and run it.

Depend on what youre looking at. Are we including social security payments or other payroll tax benefits, are we accounting for the large amounts of land owned by the federal government or their bureaus? Are we accounting for the saving things like the post office gets from economies of scale? Etc.

why do you seem to want to spin around anything to avoid perspective...

Let me simplify the commentary:
  1. States Received Federal Funding for a great many things from the Federal Government Revenue System,
  2. Poorer States who don't contribute as much into the Federal Revenue System as more Productive states,
  3. the majority of funds in the system is contributed by the more productive states .

Point:
  1. Democratic Voting States are Predominantly Higher Revenue Generating States for Federal Revenue System, than Republican Voting States.

Result:
  1. Poorer States Receive a great deal of funds from what is contributed into the Federal Revenue System,

Understanding Gained:

  1. Poorer States are Predominantly Voters for Republicans, who rely on a vast amount of Federal Funded Support Programming.

Fact:

  1. States with Predominantly Voters for Republican are less progressive and in some ways years and decades behind States where people Predominantly Vote Democratic.

Too many things WE do not know about this fiasco as it seems like a unethical"white collar" managed operation . surely members did not support price gouging under any circumstances. Some decision makers need to be visited with a federal grand jury indictment centered around negligence etc etc etc.

how was the decision made to deregulate ? was there a membership vote?

there are all sorts of cooperatives ................. this one did not cooperate then did not take care of the members. Now it is in need of a ratepayers/peoples cooperative instead of a criminal pretend cooperative

bankruptcy is a favorite tool of polluters once a large fine has been handed down.

I say put the electric corporation out of commercial ownership, fine the management at all levels then nationalize with ratepayers as the owners/BOD's.

Think ratepayers owner/cooperative LLC.

Freeze all of the assets.

i think it will get worse. it's that hardheaded thing they do.

Well, that might have been said in some terms about Georgia, too. And look - it turned Blue, including both Senate seats.

they just stupidly dropped their mask mandate and opened up 100%. my sympathy for their electrical problems just dropped significantly. i'm still sorry that it resulted in deaths, though.

So, again, Brazos Valley Electric Co-op is a ratepayer cooperative. Is there some reason in a thread about Brazos Valley Electric Co-op this can’t register in people’s heads?

It sounds a bit silly to me when someone says something like “You know how we can prevent things like the Brazos Valley Co-op going bankrupt ---------- form a co-op!@!!!!!!!
