Texas Nearly Flipped BLUE!

I don't think it should be ignored that Ted Cruz is an extremely unlikeable person. I don't think the result would have been near as close with a better GOP candidate. Props to O'Rourke though, he came very close.

Gotta agree with you there.

The OP kinda went overboard on the idea of Texas "flipping" Blue.
The real answer was right in front to see, but over-enthusiasm got in the way.

The 2018 midterms have come and gone, and Ted Cruz won his hard fought battle against Robert O'Rourke. Why did Cruz struggle so much?? He won by a few percentage points, sure - but that was a close call! Ted Cruz almost lost Texas!

A senator since 2013, in a state that's been reliably red for twenty five year, TEXAS! Ted Cruz nearly lost his senate race in Texas! Was it the blue wave? The fact that his opponent spent double as much? Or maybe illegal immigration?

Whatever the reason, here's the bottom line: The Democrats almost flipped Texas. Texas almost went blue. #TedCruz nearly lost the race! #Texas nearly went to the democrats. That was a tough race, but in the end, Ted Cruz pulled the win out of his hat! Great job!

It's called MONEY. There were tens of millions spent against Cruz.

Except that several of the other statewide races in Texas were also under 5%.

Definitely a vast oversimplification of the issue.

And definitely a distraction from the fact that the Democrats spent double the republicans did.

sure but the Democrats are selling welfare and Republicans are selling freedom. In the end Democrats win.

Because Republicans had a hard time getting donations this year. You can thank Trump for that. As for Texas itself, it's a purple state. Houston, Dallas, Austin, El Paso, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley are all deep blue. Everywhere else is deep red. Is Texas Liberal or Conservative? Depends where you go in Texas. There are still more Conservative voters statewide than Liberals, and it will remain that way for the time being. Beto lost because more voters statewide feared him than hated Ted Cruz. Had Beto reached out to the other side on issues, and acted like a blue dog democrat instead of a liberal, he would have won. However, he was honest, and he lost, although even Cruz respected him for the race he ran.

Despite tens of millions from outside interests..... They photocopied, imported voters, searched under every sofa, mattress, and rental car for votes. Eventually democrats will cheat enough to win if sensible people are not careful.

Now clean all that garbage out of our yards.....
