Texas inmates being "cooked alive" without AC

Better?

So, let me get this right, because we've had prisons in history with terrible conditions it should be fine now?

People are dying so you can't claim conditions are just a little hot.
It would be like saying Covid wasn't a problem because it didn't wipe out the entire human race.

How about we bring nack some more stuff from old prisons?

Maybe the rack as people survived that although I bet they wish they hadn't.

I appreciate your service. I also served in the military. I have paid taxes my entire life.
Republican because the Dems create more government than is necessary so they can control more Americans.
We will have to disagree on this.

Democrats created regulation to keep corporate scumbags and dishonest business criminals in check. It had nothing to do with controlling anybody. It had to do with keeping scumbags from hurting people.

Texas is not going to murder people by proxy and get away with it. The government of that State must be held absolutely accountable. Their budget surplus needs to be seized and used to put air conditioning in ALL prisons in that state. The rest of it is forfeit and should be donated to charities that help with food banks, abortion services, medical services for the poor, as well as providing schools with new books, computers, and updated facilities.

Gregg Abbott and his co-Nazi Lt. Governor both belong in a cell until they day they die.

Nonsensical bullshit.

Those prisons did not provide those prisoners with water.

Please DO NOT make excuses for what Texas has done.

of course heat can affect people - nobody said it didn't

allegedly prisons are "cooking people alive"

little dramatic don't ya think ?
Not really, no.

People are dying of heat-related issues in Texas and Texas is lying about it to avoid responsibility.

This is all irrelevant.

You're ducking.

Just stop.

One death because of the negligence of Texas is too many.

this you?

again, I'd bet if any died they were already sick, obese, compromised .... the heat of 100 degree days isn't killers
If folks literally dying from the heat is insufficient,
What criteria must be met for you to consider the heat to be considered deadly?

weird people keep trying to focus on the diction of whoever was quoted as if the hyperbole was the significant information in the article

it's almost as if focusing on this immaterial bit is an intentional gambit to distract from the actual topic of discussion

The Texas prisons aren't providing water? I was unaware of that and, if that's actually the case, then that is certainly cruel and unusual. That also has nothing to do with the heat because people need food and water to live. If the Texas prisons aren't providing both of those then we need a congressional inquiry. That's IF because I suspect that you're completely wrong about that assertion.

Nope. This is utter nonsense.

41 people have died as a result of what the State of Texas is doing. Your denials do not change that.

Then there is this:

You are trying to play down the severity of what Texas has done and continues to do.

lets put this to rest -

"It's not clear how much of a role, if any, the heat played in the 23 deaths," the newspaper continued. "TDCJ spokesperson Amanda Hernandez said last month it is inaccurate to label any death as heat-related before an investigation is complete."

there - donee

They did not put glass on their buildings.
Interestingly enough, Egyptians are generally considered to be the first ones to use glass windows and that started over 2000 years ago.

What is left standing today suggests that they were smart enough not to use it.

If I am wrong, I will be happy to admit it, but there was an inmate who specifically commented on not being given access to water.

Texas is lying.

Autopsies completed on some of those people confirmed the cause(s) of death were heat related.

Grand Mal careful. In Canada we have the exact same problems and are jail conditions are not any better. I have been in plenty of prisons as a lawyer on both sides(some say being one I should be in jail as we are all criminals). Trust me some of our prisons are as bad as it gets.

The irony is the same law and order people who want everyone locked up don't address the lack of prisons and the ones that exist and are falling apart. I faced much ridicule trying to create what we called restorative justice programs to try other processes other than jail time to deal with crime to deal with the over-crowding.

Its a lose lose. If you raise taxes to build more prisons people bitch. If you do not build the prisons people bitch.

Trying to put mentally ill people and drug addicts who are not entrenched in criminal behaviour in half way houses, out patient treatment programs, work projects, ankle monitors, might work.

In Canada we could try send convicts to work camps up North to build schools, hospitals, roads, etc., for rural native villages but their individual legal rights only allow that on a volunteer basis and even then no one wants to do it.

So you don't like Gov Abbott because he is tough on illegal aliens?
What a surprise.
No one will hold Gov Abbott accountable for any death in a prison caused by excessive heat.
That's like expecting Trump to spend any time in a jail.
