Yeah I think the Pope is 1) towing the line of the church and 2) not unaware that Italy has been a very easy soft target for terrorism in the past.

Not sure about a World War. I am sure though that Pope Francis is extremely concerned about what could happen to the Christians of Syria. It's also not out of the question to think an attack on Syria could lead to involvement from Iran,who might attack Israel and perhaps Jordan. Unlikely but not something that could not happen. World War 1 started and escalated over far less.
 
I think there might be a chance of WW only if Israel get involved. By attacking or by being attacked.

Syria already promised to bomb Israel if attacked. Iran also mentioned something of the kind.

The prospects of WW3 are very, very real.
 
No they don't. The 'red threat' is all but forever diminished. What might be the 'strategic' advantage of backing Russia against a wall? It's already crippled. Does one corner a wounded animal? One with such sharp teeth? Russia has interests in oil, too, yet has nothing like America's credit or purchasing power. In the present time, they're only a threat to the extent they're threatened. Russia won't endanger the flow of western credits, that represent the only reason it avoids an economic abyss it may never arise from.

How could WW3 be measured against historical precedent?

There isn't any.
 
It's the Vatican.

Assad could update his FB status with a selfie of him straddling a chemical weapon with a message of " Dear FSA, you are soooo ****ed. LOL.Kind regards, Basher" painted on the side. They would still advocate a diplomatic resolution and preach about unintended consequences of military action.

That is the only reason why the Syria regime change project should be halted. If it spirals to WW3, well then by all means, fvck it!! It will have to wait for a while!

Why have not any negotiations taken place. Serbia's president Milloschevich was conducting atrocities on the ground with his army while also being in negotiations with the west. I mean we have spoken to criminals before. Why not now also?

Obama does not work alone. Would not his followers and analysis do the work of approximating or predicting the final outcome or scenes?

If WW3 is in there somewhere, then hell no!

We forgot G20! There is a meeting that will take in G20.

You see, now it all makes sense. They may be raising dust with this WW3 business just to make things more uncertain and compromise in that meeting! They shall be striking deals in that meeting you see. Putin may be wanting more securities or so in Syria and he will get to speak of those there.

You would probably know more about Russian imperialism than many in the West given that they controlled, through their German proxies, the eastern half of the country.

Of course the real threat is is still the Americans and the attitude of organizations like PNAC. The Russians you can trust, despite their paranoia.

WW3 was against Communism, won by the only remaining Superpower. WW4 is already in progress against the Islamofascists.
 


Iraq also had this potential, as does Iran.


Anytime you get one of the great powers attacking a country where the other two (Russia, China) have vested interests, the risk of an escalating conflict exists.


As to whether it is LIKELY... I have my doubts.

And rightly so.

Where would be the benefit to either Russia or China? There is no strongly held ideology that separates these countries, and no one's security is at risk. Neither can any of these countries afford a war. There might be some Cold War posturing but it would go nowhere.

Russia and China have probably both been informed that a few missiles will be dropped in order to same some face but it will stop there, and both Russia and Chine will quietly acquiesce..

At least when he made Hillary Clinton his Secretary of State he did not allow her to have anything to do with Iraq or Afgan for about three years or so. But with Kerry, he added no much needed adult supervision.

We have already done that. What I was getting at was that if Russia and Iran attack an ally in ME (i.e., Israel), what is to stop Russia, Serbia, and perhaps Montenegro attacking European allies (i.e., us) here?

Considering Greeks do not go after you below since they are in NATO. Though considering their economic crisis they might nevertheless.

You mean Obama is left, is surrounded by yes men, influences uncritical group think influence, just like Kennedies did, and all this is Bay of Pigs all over again? I do not think so. To beat the devastating influences of group think you just assign a devils advocate. But of course they know this undergraduate stuff and may as well be working along those lines.
