Suggestion:
  • Define and enforce a rule that requires threads in the Polls section to have an associated poll created by the "Post a Poll" functionality presented at the "Additional Options" section of the "Post New Thread" page. Move poll-less threads out of the Polls section of the forum.
What's the point of a poll section, as distinct from all the other sections of DP, if the threads in that section offer members no way to actually vote?

People get timed due to the 5 minute limit. One can also use the report function asking for a poll to be added.
Mods are busy enough without having to move a thread no poll, to another sub forum.
Things happen, IMHO this is not a big deal.

The large majority of threads do have a poll attached.

The 5 minute rule (I did not know about) got me. I was correcting typos - and suddenly it just posted my message without the poll.

Usually the poll choices (if legit) are easy to guess.

I didn't know there is such a limit. I've not run into it. Then again, I don't pose complicated polls that require more than a minute or two's typing. The most laborious-to-create poll questions I've posed are these:
-- Do yo believe Donald Trump is....
-- Have you read and understood...
Neither required more than two minutes to create.

I got caught a number of times.
Now I open 2 tabs. one for the Polls thread, another for working on it (always leave the title blank in both, no mistaken OP posted then) reread the poll questions/choices over and over. Make edits and all.
Then copy to the other post new thread.
After that it is copy and paste poll question and choices

Red:
I have many answers, but I need to know what question a "pollster" is asking to know which of them answers the question s/he is asking.

FWIW, in most poll thread I look at, so long as the poll question is neutrally phrased, I just tick the best answer, given my thoughts on the matter, and move on. (I don't respond to leading/loaded poll questions.)

I have no objection to the five-minute limit being extended.

Thing is all changes takes money. At one point donations were down, and from what I recall, the site owner was always coughing up the shortfall. They made an announcement that donations were needed, many came thru.

If you wish to donate, then feel free to do so.

If anyone sees a thread in the Polls section that does not include a poll, please report it. We can't read every post made on the board nor can we review every forum, every day. We like to keep things neat and threads without polls need to be moved out. We move them when we see them.

If anyone makes a thread in the forum and is timed out (I believe it's 20 minutes) please report your thread and ask for the poll to be added and include your options. This way, any mod who has the time could add one.
This is the stickied thread at the top of the forum:
This is a reminder that the Polls Forum is intended for politically oriented polls. If you wish to create a poll that is not politically oriented, please do so in the appropriate DP forum.

The Moderator Team will begin moving new polls to the appropriate DP forum effective today. This is a limited grace period, and voluntary compliance is requested and greatly appreciated.

How much money do you suppose it takes for a moderator to add the verbiage below to the existing sticky in the Polls section?

  • Threads in the Polls section must have a poll that allows users to select form a list of answer options. Members can create a poll using the Post a Poll functionality that appears on every Post New Thread page. Threads created in the Polls section and that do not, after the "X-minute" poll creation time limit expires, have a poll are subject to being summarily moved or closed.
That's really all that I am asking for.

How hard is it for you to have your **** together before you decide to post a poll?

You’ve been here for six months and have bitched from the start.........adapt or move on......

Mods are all volunteers. They set priorities as to what will be looked at, to what they were handed by a Mod going off duty - those running scams from Nigeria - yes I was one on the receiving end of a number of those, along with other members. Action reports of BFT- attacks on protected classes, to updating threads where the Title has been updated by the news site. Havig been here for 4 1/2 years, many times one may see only 1 Mod on duty, action a number of reported posts to requests to yes in my case and other to add a poll. They set priorities. What a member may see as a priority, they have no idea of what other tasks the Mods have, such as removing banned members.
Oh yes, then add in the appeals of Infractions. All take time
We have an excellent group of Mods.
Lastly, volunteers (Mods, DMs, Tavern Bartenders) do not get paid

I don't have a particular concern about where they prioritize enforcing such a rule so long as they do within some reasonable time period get ....

I would hazard a guess the OP never asked, discussion is ongoing, and it will eventually die off in time

??? What OP? I'm the OP-er of this thread. Had you a different OP or OP-er in mind when you wrote the above sentence?

Those that post in Polls and no poll, as they had a time out. That is what I was referring to.

Ah...TY for the clarification. I now understand what you meant.

This does not strike me as a systemic problem.

Systemic? ??? Systemic with regard to what system? I don't think the software, one's computer or the Internet itself causes thread creators to omit a poll. Do you? (FWIW, I think it more a phenomenon than a problem.)

Though I've not tallied the incidence of the problem, I have, of late, found myself clicking on poll threads only to find that there is no poll offered. It's happened often enough -- about twice a week, I'd say -- that I decided to post a suggestion pertaining to the matter. I wouldn't have done but for the threads' being in the Polls subforum.
