I just saw on the local news that the State of California found their special xmas tree. It is 180 years old and it is a national secret where it was found in the forest. Ooooh. Secrets. Why keep it so secretive? So "vandals" don't mess with it before they kill it by whacking it down. Vandals my ass. More like people who respect this tree lived for so long only to be cut down by a bunch of morons who want it to represent California for a holiday that is far from what that holiday is supposed to represent and perhaps chaining themselves to it.

Am I a tree hugger? Why, yes. I guess I am.

I actually agree. It's ridiculous to cut down old growth for a friggin Christmas tree. Such vanity.

I am ashamed to be a Californian. And I'm very sad about that very old tree that met it's end for such a stupid reason.
Whacking to build homes for people homeless? Go for it. Whacking it down for firewood to keep people warm? Go for it. Whacking it down, treating californians like they are idiots and coming up with such a lie as to why its location is secret, putting pretty and cheap crap made in China to represent a holiday that is nothing any more except dollar signs.....that makes me not only nauseated, but disgusted and angry as well.

I hate all these "national" and "statehouse" trees. They are so old and beautiful to be sacrificed for a holiday. Then again, I'm a grinch. I don't think trees should be slaughtered where there are perfectly good fake trees at WalMart for $39.99.

Seriously, even as a little girl I used to cry for the trees my dad dragged home from the tree lot. It seemed sad to me then, and it still does.

Why can't they plant a tree and use it as a living Christmas tree every year? Who cares if it's not 50'+ tall for awhile?

This is just stupid and wasteful. When I was growing up had a conifer growing in a pot that we used as a Christmas tree every year, it's a far better idea than lopping an ancient one down ever year.

Both problems can be fixed with a stick of dynamite.

All trees are made out of 100% recycled material.

What's the problem?

So, I'm thinking about this a bit more, and I'm thinking that plating a tree would be a brilliant PR move for the President who does it.
