If you took a newborn and placed it on the ground and left it alone is it still human? It can't sustain its life without being taken care of.

You said capable of indepenently sustaining life. A newborn is not capable of sustaining its own life at all.

You're nitpicking and not arguing in good faith

A healthy, newly born infant is medically capable of sustaining life.

Granted it still needs food, water, clothing and shelter...but if that's your disqualifier you are being disingenuous because so does a paralyzed man in bed. And he is regarded as capable of sustaining life.

ie: He doesn't need life support switched on.
