Just when you think a race for a vacant Congress seat isn't newsworthy enough comes this out of South Carolina: The sister of comedian Stephen Colbert plans to run.
It's not a joke. Elizabeth Colbert-Busch intends to join the crowded field to succeed Republican Tim Scott, according to WIS-TV in Columbia.

Interesting, especially when you see she could be running against disgraced former governor Mark Sanford. It's probably irrelevant though, considering the 27% win Republicans had in this district during the mildly Democratic 2012
Meh...it might be interesting if Colbert himself ran.
I just think a matchup between his sister and Mark Sanford has got to create some good material for his show.
I am sorry, but if Al Franken was allowed to walk into the Senate door, then pretty much anybody is electable in this day and age. I had so much respect for Minnesota until that happened......now, they are a joke of a state to me.

Ventura?
Franken's liberal, so you're automatically going to be predisposed to regard him as Hitler Lite, but Franken has been a fine, if unassuming, Senator from a procedural standpoint. He hasn't made a single joke on the Senate floor. Most Wisconsinites are pleased with him (he's got quite high approvals), and he'll be re-elected without substantial problem.
Keep him if you want---I have no say in that--but you will never convince me he was even in the top 10 most qualified liberals in Minnesota when he ran. He fell through a gap and landed in the honey pot.
Colbert is an attention whore. This will cause family strife.
He gets paid to be an attention whore. And he's really good at it, providing brilliant insight and plays on words in the process.

Nope, despite what people here think, I am a progressive libertarian--I am all for lots of progressive things as long as they are optional and not mandated i.e. I am pro-choice on all those things other than abortion. Has nothing to do with him being a liberal so much as it is him being a joke of a candidate. You'd think differently if you'd ever bothered to actually watch his political career.
He's good. I used to watch. I'm just saying, I expect his TV persona to be upset with his sister getting attention.
