sigh,... let's hope politicians spend money wisely instead of yet again looking out for their own self interest and buying voters goodwill,...

basically the only thing that makes economic and environmental sense is,... 'Covering the 4,000 miles of California’s water canals could save billions of gallons of water and generate renewable power for the state every year, according to a new study.'

This is where Conservatives chime in with complaints.

This seems like a pretty obvious win/win as it saves water and generates power which is both needed but I await to be schooled on why this is actually the worst idea ever and the money would be utilised in the bank accounts of billionaires.

It would be better utilized reducing state taxes. California taxes (I live here) are absurdly high, to the point where state income taxes cost me more then my rent did where I moved from.,

Yes, would not want to have a reliable electric grid...

I heard earlier this week Newsom's latest brainstorm is to finance abortion clinics and pay for out of state women's expenses to come to California for abortions - all expenses paid!

In response to your Gas rebate check link, I can't wait for the story's of electric car owners getting one.

We all hope it's a one way ticket.

That’s odd..

So what’s your argument? That Texas has a crappy grid with lower taxes and California charges many more taxes and also has a crappy grid?

If I get crappy utilities either way then I would prefer to pay less

Is the California grid isolated from other states?

What is the relevance of this to state tax policy? The status of Texas’s electrical utilities do not really concern me.

They concern Texans who lost 246 fellow Texans last year when the grid failed.

Now I know where they got that idea, from India

You could probably buy all the cheese made in the UK with that sort of money.

It's well worth considering.

Well, you're wrong. It's definitely a better idea than the stupid high speed rail project... the death which likely is the free money they have for this project.

Theoretcially, the shade for the aqueduct would reduce evaporation, and make the waterway more efficient... but then that could be managed more cheaply with a tin roof....

Whether or not that much solar power being generated far from the demand is cost effective is another story, as well as cost of upkeep.

It would seem a better use of funds to put a roof on the waterway and cover residential roofs with solar pannels... less loss, better efficiency.

So yeah, seems like an interesting concept, but also sounds a bit like the Solar Roadways scam.

Edit: The reason I see this as a bit of a Solar Roadways scam is that putting stationary solar pannels is rather inefficient, especially when there direction, at least as depicted, is determined more by the direction of the waterway than the direction of the sun. So, in the same way that the Solar Roadways failed, the more efficent use of pannels is to have free moving pannels that follow the sunlight via solar trackers... at which point the Solar Roadway and Solar Waterway are more a gimmick than a good idea.

So they can spend money of solar power if they want.. there are better ways to do it.

Solar isn't the direction to go if reliable is the objective. Is it impossible for people to learn from Europe's mistakes?

Also, the California rolling brown outs laugh at your Texas example... I mean, the problem that Texas is having is standard operating procedure for California.

How is it that the Amerian left seems so intent on diving into projects that have already proven problematic in other countries?
