THIS thread has been VERY revealing.
I can only repeat, as I already have, that while mild spanking done on very rare occasions might have some merit, the comments some on this thread have made make me nauseous. They positively are celebrating the use of force on kids. Imagine being that small, that insecure, that one would believe the ONLY way to parent is to use force.

What specific circumstance requires physically hitting a child? When is there not another option and form of discipline available and where the only option is to physically hit a child?

What does hitting a child teach them? What do they learn from it?

I’ve yet to see anyone display a cogent reasoning behind hitting a child.

Anything can happen. There is a debate on the failure of public schools and the fact that they have failed. One wonders if the lack of discipline in children is one of the driving forces of that failure?

Ignoring bad behavior in children who are screaming in a mall or store, who are running wild in restaurants, who don't know what "no" means is the opposite of good parenting.

And we all see it every single day - the philosophy of those in this thread who lie that spanking is "violence against children" or "beating," in action.

Undisciplined children turn into adults without self-discipline. And we see that every single day as well.

5 million years of evolution, to start with.

But in our age, the reason are the safety of the child and instilling respect for authority.

A 3 year old isn't an adult who can reason fully. (Though most are more mature than the average leftist.) Lessons taught at an early age are often most effective with a swat on the behind.

Numerous studies - too many to count - show that early development is complete at around age 6. After that, spanking is no longer effective in training children to be civilized adults. But during the formative period, it is a critical tool in forming disciplined and socially adjusted children.
