Southwest border crossings at lowest level since 1960s (1 Viewer)

Again, you're missing the point. No, the president isn't to blame for crimes committed by illegal immigrants. That's why I haven't blamed any of them. That's on you. My response is to show exactly what you've written here.

Stop blaming Biden for crime.

I'm not missing the point

If you are driving down the road drunk as a skunk at 100 mph and get in a car wreck you are FAR more responsible than me getting in a wreck while driving 50 mph and sober and careful

Biden had series of moves starting Day One of his presidency that opened our borders to 10-12 million illegally coming here people - HE DID THAT

Trump never did

there is a big difference

I mean I don't know what to tell you

There is a process for coming to the USA legally. I'm sorry you didn't know that.

Its easy to google - its even easier to open a google link but ok here are some of the many links available to educate yourself on how a non-US citizen can apply for asylum

its just that millions didn't give a crap and come here without following legal process. That's their fault - it was a choice, a decisions. Deport every one of them and I'm fine with it

See, was that so hard?

Now we're back to Guzman. Murdered four of my neighbors. Because of Trump.

You just don't get it. Your need to blame Biden is impenetrable.

According to a report in today's WSJ (paywall), southwest border crossings in March were at the lowest level recorded since 1960s. That's remarkable.

Additionally, to put the last four years in perspective, here's the data on migrant encounters at the border from the same article:

7200 hundred this past month. Under Biden's watch it peaked at 250,000.

All this establishes beyond any doubt that the Democrats' recent claim they could do nothing about immigration while the GOP was blocking the "bipartisan immigration bill" was simply a lie. Even the Biden administration improved the situtation as the election approached without that bill becoming law.

We have the laws in place to control illegal immigration. It's simply a matter of will and anyone who tells you differently is either ignorant of the facts or a liar.
We finally got a president in power who actually does things to discourage people from coming here illegally in the first place. Democrats welcomed them with open arms, doing everything they could to encourage them to come.

I read a story recently where one of the big bought and paid for lefty news media set up shop at an illegal border crossing to record illegals crossing over the border to put on their news to prove illegals are still coming here, even under Trump's policies. After being there several hours with cameras ready and not seeing one illegal crossing over, they finally gave up and left.

He's stopping people from coming here legally.

LOL. When you cross the border illegally you are not here legally. But, I understand that you aren't able to process this. I am 100% for stopping everyone from crossing our border illegally. If you want to claim asylum then you do it without crossing the border illegally.

Trump is ecstatic. The Democrats and the media are doing exactly what Trump wants them to do. They are talking a lot about immigration, freeing a man falsely imprisoned, and court decisions.

Both are minimizing the disastrous economic effects of Trump's tariffs and the loss of our friends and allies because Trump targeted them.

The Democrats and the media are providing only lip service to our declining economy, increasing inflation, higher unemployment, and a horrendous loss of retirement savings since Trump became President.

The Guardian reports, "A delegation of four House Democrats has arrived in El Salvador to push for the release of Kilmar Ábrego García, part of a mission to challenge the Trump administration’s refusal to comply with a supreme court order to facilitate the return of the immigrant to the United States."

This is great news, according to Trump because the Democrats and the media are not talking about this.

US stocks ended the day sharply lower Monday and the dollar tumbled as investors assessed continued tariff uncertainty and the implications of President Donald Trump’s ongoing mission to try and oust Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

The Dow fell 972 points, or 2.48%. The broader S&P 500 fell 2.36%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite slid 2.55%. The three major indexes slumped throughout the day before pulling back slightly in the afternoon

The sell-off on Monday was widespread, as nearly every company in the Dow and the S&P 500 closed lower. All three major indexes are coming off of a week in the red and are on pace for their worst month since 2022.

The US dollar index, which measures the dollar’s strength against six foreign currencies, slumped more than 1% to its lowest level in more than three years.

Despite the obvious fact that it is Trump's tariffs and loss of friends -- Canada and the U.K. come to mind --causing the problems, Trump, as usual, blames someone else. He lambasted Powell for not cutting interest rates.

“If I want him out, he’ll be out of there real fast, believe me,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Thursday. “I’m not happy with him.”

The media should be aware of its responsibilities. They need to do better at covering the problems Americans are facing that were caused by this President.

They could begin with this. Senior Americans have lost billions in retirement savings since Trump became president.

See, was that so hard?

clearly it was - you were unable to click the link giving you the google search I used which would have provided all those links - any of them for your reading/educational pleasures

you just didn't understand how to do it

what policies did Trump enact that made it easier for Guzman to enter the USA illegally ?

what was Trump trying to do to secure the border? what was the Democrats doing to stop him ?

its all relveant

now, compare Trump to Biden's first day

You just don't get it. Your need to blame Biden is impenetrable.
you can't defend Biden's policies

Then the asylum laws need to be changed. This has been adjudicated.

I don't disagree, but if the jobs are still there, people will find ways to come. If the jobs aren't there, they don't come, and some go back. I just got back from errands and as I often do, I drove up to the Five Ridges development to see the progress. I've always been interested in construction. I saw one Anglo cleaning up the street with a leaf blower. All the concrete, framing and roofing is being done by non-English speaking Hispanics. Are they illegal? I don't know. Are they all on work visas? I highly doubt it.

So, apparently, these workers don't fear deportation. Why have there been no raids? Why did Trump exempt farm workers? Eventually, reasonable people ask themselves whether this is all a bunch of bullshit. Drama.

That may be very true—it just means that undocumented immigrants are hiding in the US. It also means that very few are applying for residency or legal status, which will worsen the labor shortage. Essentially, this stagnates the economy and limits GDP growth. As it has in every country where this practice has been implemented.

In the past, there was a revolving door at the border: people would come in, work for a few months or years, collect enough money, and then return home. With the introduction of draconian immigration policies (which started under Clinton), this balance has been lost. Previously, if you were undocumented in the US, you could apply to change your status, and assuming you had no criminal record, you could become a legal resident within about two years.

Now, you have to leave the country to change your status (assuming your ass will not be blindly shipped to El Salvador or some other dark gulag!), which makes it nearly impossible. As a result, undocumented immigrants remain in the shadows, unable to become legal residents and fully contribute to society.

This is not something to be celebrated—no more than we should celebrate Prohibition-era laws just because fewer people bought alcohol in stores. In reality, such policies only feed the criminal undercurrents of society.

But to some, ignorance is a bliss....

I get it...uhmmm no...I don't get it...I don't understand why people wilfully want to stay ignorant!

Sorry, no, preserving a system of illegal labor no reason to ignore immigration law.
