Southwest border crossings at lowest level since 1960s (1 Viewer)

I believe Trump has decided we need that illegal immigrant labor. He says the farmers, hospitality and others can keep theirs if the employer says they are good people.

Guess he realizes Americans don't want those jobs.

And let's add more paperwork, process and cost to keep things the same.

Yes, this will work only until the next President comes along that wants to open things up.

Wouldn't be the case if they had passed that bi-partisan border bill.

Trump didn't want it.

He doesn't care about solutions. He cares about appearances. He's more than happy to keep this issue alive forever,

According to a report in today's WSJ (paywall), southwest border crossings in March were at the lowest level recorded since 1960s. That's remarkable.

Additionally, to put the last four years in perspective, here's the data on migrant encounters at the border from the same article:

View attachment 67566159

7200 hundred this past month. Under Biden's watch it peaked at 250,000.

All this establishes beyond any doubt that the Democrats' recent claim they could do nothing about immigration while the GOP was blocking the "bipartisan immigration bill" was simply a lie. Even the Biden administration improved the situtation as the election approached without that bill becoming law.

We have the laws in place to control illegal immigration. It's simply a matter of will and anyone who tells you differently is either ignorant of the facts or a liar.

I won't lie: Trump has won the border issue.

I wish that weren't the case, but it is the case.

Better to beat up on MS-13 gang members than have your whole county terrorized. Sometimes you just got to choose.

Trump sure sees it as a model. Its like the government becomes the gang.

Its a funny thing. When you arbitrarily apply the law to stop crime, it usually doesn't stop with criminals.

"While Bukele did drastically reduce gang violence in El Salvador, the methods used were Orwellian in their violation of civil liberties. Declaring a state of emergency that placed few limits on the power of the federal government, Bukele’s troops went door to door arresting thousands of people, often arbitrarily. Due process was systematically disregarded as individual trials, a right guaranteed in El Salvador, were bypassed in favor of mass trials which delivered draconian verdicts. Amidst this hysteria, thousands of innocent people were mistakenly arrested, as were thousands of children, prompting the alarm of international human rights groups who condemned what they asserted as gross human rights violations.

Bukele’s concentration of power eroded El Salvador’s democracy in less conspicuous ways too. In 2021, using his party’s legislative majority, Bukele dismissed five of the judges on El Salvador’s Supreme Court, replacing them with loyalists instead. The move came just in time for Bukele to announce his intention to seek a second term in 2024, despite the fact that the El Salvadoran Constitution limits presidents to a single 5-year term. Bukele’s newly-appointed corrupt judges proceeded to rule it admissible for him to bypass the Constitution and run for reelection, which is the only reason the self-proclaimed dictator still leads El Salvador.

Now, it isn’t new or surprising to see a self-appointed strongman like Bukele willingly make the trade-off of sacrificing civil liberties in favor of order. That is, after all, the apparatus of dictators. But what is fascinating is the explosive popularity that Bukele has consistently enjoyed from the public whose rights are the ones being denied. The benefits of reduced gang violence have allowed Bukele to convince the public in El Salvador that the civil liberties trade-off is a worthy one.

As a result, El Salvador’s system of checks and balances has crumbled, perhaps irreversibly, and dissent has been crushed. 61% percent of El Salvadorans now report self-censoring out of fear of expressing their opinions. This means that when the jubilation over Bukele eventually breaks, and his popularity begins to slip, there will be little power the people possess to stop him, all with the full knowledge that they were led to willingly sacrifice this power."

How do we know CBP numbers are accurate? fer real?? There are definitions
Or you could look at the many sources that show no mass migrants piling up at the borders.. few at all
Military now there, razor wire extended..I mean it's manifest..But it's easier just to live in denial

A pretty good description of denial in your post. Like militarizing the border will solve our immigration problems.

Republican leaders in Congress say nothing ... do nothing.
The Republican Party is determined to destroy the American government. This accounts for their silence.
Most Americans lost more money today. We won't get it back even if market returns to its peak level once Trump is gone. That's almost four years from now.

Since Donald Trump's inauguration, the US stock market has experienced a significant decline, losing approximately $9.6 trillion in value.

Can we afford Trump? Republicans in Congress won't answer that question. Grassroots Republicans, responsible for Trump, say nothing.

The Dow is down 700 points today.

CNN reports, "President Donald Trump’s significant policy changes, including on tariffs, are unlike anything seen in modern history, putting the Federal Reserve in uncharted waters, Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday.

“These are very fundamental policy changes,” Powell said at an event hosted by the Economic Club of Chicago. “There isn’t a modern experience of how to think about this.”

"Powell said “the level of the tariff increases announced so far is significantly larger than anticipated” and that the lingering uncertainty around tariffs could inflict lasting economic damage. With Trump’s tariffs putting the economy on a path toward weaker growth, higher unemployment and faster inflation — all at the same time — the Fed is also facing a situation it hasn’t dealt with in about half a century."

All the while Republican leaders in Congress do nothing.

They won't even speak!

Today, our President caused Americans to lose a portion of their savings again.

Republicans in Congress will say and do nothing. The forum's Republicans will continue their silence.

CNBC reports, "The S&P 500 ticked higher in choppy trading on Thursday, but finished the holiday-shortened trading week lower as tariffs continued to worry investors.

"But the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 527.16 points, or 1.33%, to settle at 39,142.23. The 30-stock index was weighed down by a 22% decline in UnitedHealth following the insurer’s earnings miss. Both the Dow and the Nasdaq posted three days of losses."

Thank you, Mr. President.

Republicans Issue Red Line Warning to Mike Johnson

A dozen House Republicans sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson as other top GOP leaders outwardly stated they "cannot and will not support" a final reconciliation bill that includes Medicaid cuts.
This is unbelievable. Because of Republicans, the country is falling apart, and we have lost every friend we have.

This is what Republicans are worried about.

denial of what? migrants encounters/get aways are way down

It will solve migrants flooding the border- already has
Nobody is flooding the border. Racism isn't necessary.

Stop hating brown people.

Excellent job at the border.

Dozens of lawsuits resulting in court orders (including SCOTUS) blocking illegal tactics being attempted by Traitor Trump and his MAGAt mafia cabinet members prove your claim wrong.

You don't get this do you?

No one, from any country wants to come here. Not to live. Not to study. Not to study not for business.
Travelers to the states are being advised to use burner phones and laptops.

The marshmallow heads think Trump had a positive effect on the boarder when in fact he has made our country into a shithole no one wants to come to. For any reason.

Smarten the **** up.

I warned the MAGA crowd, MAGA Media rots the brain.

Past presidents have deported millions of people.

Trump could too if he would just do it legally.

But he wants to make a statement about how the justice system is persecuting him. Red meat for his base.

That's an interesting point because that's the price paid right now because they've launched into a pronged attack on student visas etc. which is impacting tourism and will affect how people think about this country as a safe place to study. That other nations are warning their citizens to bring burner phones to the US indicates how bad this has all gotten.

I feel like too few people are shocked enough

Yes, and I'm growing increasingly curious as to all the undeniable and absolutely definitive proof of the status (illegal/criminal/gang member/terrorist/other) of each one, notice provided in each case, and details of the hearings all those illegals (must have?) received - what Dems are now loudly insisting as the "due process" illegals deserve and removals most definitely require. Also, I am growing increasingly curious about all the lawsuits which surely flooded in, in order to fight their removal - certainly including those deportations which happened under Dem presidents, like Biden.

I heard one estimate yesterday that it would take up to 3 decades to remove just the illegals let in by Biden, with all the "due process" the Dems are currently insisting is essential/necessary/required, supposedly per the Constitution.

How very easy it was for Biden to invite them in and allow them to roam freely in our country and how VERY DIFFICULT and painfully slow the Dems are determined to make their removal.

No doubt, with all these questions and battles to keep the illegals here, we now could end up having a number of upcoming elections where illegals and the support and protection of them might remain a very notable topic.

Why does Trump have so much trouble just following the law? It certainly isn't just immigration.

I thought Republicans were the law and order party.

I wouldn't worry about it. Theyre actually a benefit. The country needs more people, especially young people. This is the only way to get them.

Meh. This doesnt improve my life at all. Not really an issue to me.

How's those grocery prices and rents coming along?

The matter is in the hands of the Supreme Court . They will decide and hopefully their ruling will be clear and unambiguous. When that happens it will no longer a political issue it will be a legal issue. Trump wants desperately to keep this a political issue to distract from his other messes. It's the only place he is above water but recent polls, such as Atlas Intel, are showing some slippage there .

Southern border crosssings under Biden slowed to a trickle. 54,000.

Ah, I see you're deciding to take up this laughable talking point about due process for other migrants. There is due process for deportation that's been in use for those specific scenarios, so if you're interested in having a debate on due process not being afforded to deportees under previous administrations, you could find examples and make that case. Since no previous presidents made a deal with another country to use one of their prisons to send deportees to, this is a first. In the case of Garcia, several courts including the Supreme Court has found fault with the way the administration has handled his situation. Now, if you have a case remotely similar to this one under Obama or Biden or anyone else, feel free to cite it and we can discuss the similarities.

I heard one estimate yesterday that it would take up to 3 decades to remove just the illegals let in by Biden, with all the "due process" the Dems are currently insisting is essential/necessary/required, supposedly per the Constitution.
It's the due process afforded to people though, so are you suggesting we scrap it? If so, you should get Congress to do something about it. Of course you may or may not be aware the current administration has implemented "expedited removal" via executive order that bypasses a person's right to see a judge.

How very easy it was for Biden to invite them in and allow them to roam freely in our country and how VERY DIFFICULT and painfully slow the Dems are determined to make their removal.
This is why people have been trying to get immigration reform through, because modifying the asylum requirements is a step in reducing who can qualify, but you'd need to bolster the amount of judges and staff to make it more efficient.

No doubt, with all these questions and battles to keep the illegals here, we now could end up having a number of upcoming elections where illegals and the support and protection of them might remain a very notable topic.
The topic is the due process everyone is afforded by the constitution. It's what's made this country different than many other failed democracies.
