South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster signed permitless carry into law Thursday, marking the second Republican-led state in two days to adopt constitutional carry gun laws.

"This new law will provide strict increased penalties for illegal gun use and possession by criminals. Now, law enforcement, prosecutors and judges can keep career violent criminals behind bars where they belong, where they can no longer hurt innocent South Carolinians," McMaster said this week of the legislation.

"The bill also increases penalties against those who are barred from carrying a firearm, such as convicted felons, if they are found with a gun, and establishes penalties against those who repeatedly carry a firearm in restricted areas"

Good; and then there were 29.

Glad to see harsher penalties for illegal gun possession by prohibited persons as well.

SC is the 8th most dangerous state in the nation. let everyone conceal carry...what could go wrong?

In most states where they're instituting Const carry, they already had legal cc. And persons that werent prohibited could carry. In my state, all you need is a background check. People who couldnt legally carry, couldnt get a permit...and if they chose to commit criminal acts, they'd just carry the gun anyway, right?

Anyone that could already legally carry and wanted to, would have, right? So what real distinction do you see here?

Nothing. But the people will find it easier to carry a firearm to defend themselves against the people who made it the 8th most dangerous state in the nation, who also, incidentally, tend not to care whether it's legal for them to carry firearms.

The distinction is that you don't have to pay the government to exercise a constitutional right, for no reason whatsoever.

Well yes, I brought that up in another thread on the same topic. $$ for the state.

Interestingly enough it will start to change.

When consequences exist for actions people tend to think a little longer about it.

My guess would be it's gangsters and cartels and drug trafficking that makes it dangerous like everywhere else in the US. And it's absolutely not law abiding gun owners.

More kids will die.

If you believe in statistics.

The distinction is that when there is 'universal' cc, criminals are on the same playing field as non-criminals. With no concealed carry, everyone that conceals carry is a criminal.

That should make the unarmed law abiding people feel better.

They aren’t letting everyone carry concealed, where did you get that nonsense from?

Rising crime, more illegal immigrants, soft on crime prosecutors is fueling the rise in gun carry.

Yeah, more shootings coming soon.

You prefer an environment where the criminals have the upper hand? Very pro-criminal of you.

Link to support that statement?
Or is that simply an opinion?

They are anyway. Are you fundamental reality about criminals is they break the law. And it's the only thing putting them from doing something is a law then it's not preventing anything.

Requiring a license to carry it's just an effort to discourage citizens from carrying.

It is not the control criminals at all it's to control non criminals specifically.

So what is the point of it?

??? What? That makes no sense. Const carry means that concealed carry is LEGAL for non-prohibited persons. The point I tried to make earlier is that "prohibited" persons are never allowed to carry, concealed or open or even own, firearms. Const carry doesnt change that.

29/50 states: Permitless carry
38/50 states: Needed to repeal the 2nd Amendment

Repeal of the second Amendment will not happen in our lifetime, or our children's lifetime...this is why they continue to squeal.

The sun will engulf the earth before they repeal the 2nd.

That is not constitutional carry, and South Carolina continues to violate the Second Amendment. You cannot place age restrictions on an individual right that is not suppose to have any restrictions according to the US Constitution and claim that it is "constitutional carry." That is a deliberate lie.

It is like saying only those who are 18 years old or older are allowed to speak freely, but everyone has the right to free speech. That is the exact same lie that South Carolina is trying to pull off with regard to the Second Amendment. It cannot be construed as constitutional if the law continues to violate the US Constitution.
