Some praise for Biden ... from a conservative

Every country bought and paid for Pfizer doses so guess they all contributed to the R&D efforts. Try as you will Trump had no more to do with the Phizer drug than any other country purchasing their drug.

That is true.

EVERYONE who paid or promised to pay for the new vaccine when it was produced contributed to the support of the costs of R&D.

The Trump Administration also cleared the way for the emergency authorization to use it here in the US.

I'm glad that you are finally able to grasp the concept.

--- CONSPIRACY THEORIES ---

Stop living in denial.
You said:

“Biden is doing the best he can. He's just not capable of doing whatever
it is that his handlers are telling him to do.”

This is purely a baseless conspiracy theory.
It is based upon NOTHING.
You are not citing “actual facts”.

--- WEAK MINDS ---

You refer to weak minds.

Trump should have known that most of his supporters have weak minds.
This is why some of them poisoned themselves by ingesting disinfectant.
This is why he shouldn’t have even suggested ingesting disinfectants.

He should have kept his big mouth shut.
But no, he had to shoot his mouth off.

This is what caused the JAN 6 insurrection at the Capitol as well –
Trump’s big mouth; boy aren’t we proud of him?

A few of his supporters who were charged after the event said
'Trump should pardon us, we did this for him'.
Talk about weak minds.

--- TABLE TOP ---

When HIV hit the scene in the 80's the same medical observation was made –
that if you were to cough onto the AIDS virus it would be killed.
(So certainly a disinfectant would kill it.)

But no idiot came out and “asked the question or made the suggestion”
that perhaps we should ingest disinfectant.

There were no idiots like Trump in positions of power at the time apparently.
Or people in power simply understood that they must act responsibly.

--- LIGHT ---

Before implementing the use of a process like UVGI there is a testing phase.
UVGI is dangerous because if UVC rays can cause cancerous radiation burns.

Severe protocols must be adhered to and you don’t just jump into it.

Safety measures such as finding a secure area and testing to make sure
that the UVC doesn’t escape; making sure that experts can be secured
to carry out the project – this requires contracts and budget approvals
which take time although you would have no knowledge of this because
it is behind the scenes. Clearly you have not had exposure to corporate
bureaucracy and matters of liability which cause everything to progress
slowly.

To bring UVGI into a common transportation system is uncommon and
it is not something that will happen instantly – the bureaucracy surrounding
testing would be immense and very time-consuming..

So UVGI treatments starting after Trump speaking does not indicate that he
caused the process to be implemented.

Like I said, given Trump’s character, it is more likely that he knew testing
was occurring and he tried to sound smart and to take credit.

It is also quite possible that an expert had proposed UVGI, among other
options, to NYC to treat subway cars and that it would have been one of
many options being considered.

There is no reason to assume that Trump deserves credit.

--- REACHING ---

It is sad to observe how much you reach in order to try to defend Trump.

It was grossly irresponsible of him to suggest ingesting disinfectant on TV, period.
For you to call it brainstorming is like somebody trying to defend Chauvin’s kill.

While there is a remote possibility that Trump may have inspired NYC to use UVGI
the odds are against it; but you have a need to give Trump credit.

Face it, the guy was a dope who had no business being in the White House.

(It is not an act of reaching for me to doubt that Trump inspired NYC to use UVGI,
because the odds are against it.)

You hate Trump. I get it.

You use a lot of words to say it.

EMERGENCY AUTHORIZATION

And what makes you think that any other president would not have “cleared the way for the emergency authorization to use it here in the US”?

Again you are dying to give credit to Trump for doing what anybody in his shoes would have done.

Just like (gullible) people who gave Giuliani credit in 2001 for how he handled the recovery effort in NY following 9/11.

Giuliani did exactly what any other mayor would have done. But he hogged up the spotlight and essentially said ‘look everybody, I’m doing a great job’ and people bought into it.

Just like when Trump kept saying that we have the greatest economy ever and that the stockmarket did better under his presidency than any other president’s. Those of us who follow finance daily because it is our job to do so know very well that the stockmarket actually performed better under Obama and that annual GDP gains were equivalent during Obama and Trump. Note however that Obama did not give corporations a 14% tax cut; taking this into consideration it is fair to say that the economy did better under Obama.

But there are gullible people out there who believe the hype.
This was especially true during Trump.
A ton of hype and no real results.

A MOMENT OF GROWTH

And I see you were stomped out by my previous response to you of 06/28/2021 at 10:37AM. Good, you are finally facing the fact that you are not as smart as you thought that you were. This is a hard lesson that we all learn at some point.

TRUMP – OLD NEWS FOR NEW YORKERS

I didn’t hate Trump; this would involve having an emotion for him.
The man is below me; he is not worthy of my emotions.
(Similarly I don’t hate Hitler. He was just another piece of cr*p that existed in human history.)

Rather, in respect to Trump, I was disgusted by the reality that so many people could be so stupid as to put such a degenerate into the WH; a man who didn’t care about the average American but who only cared about his constituents. This is not what a president is supposed to do – he is supposed to care about the whole country.

We NYers always knew that he was a piece of garbage – remember, he conducted business his whole life in NY before he got the WH gig.

One developed a hatred for Trump if one was suddenly introduced to Trump and didn’t know Trump’s past. We NYers knew him well and he was a piece of sh*t for his entire career screwing over (at least 3000) contractors and embezzling from his ‘charity’ which was eventually ordered shut down by the state and for ripping off people for millions of dollars with Trump University.

So the degeneracy of Trump was an old story for us in NY and we didn’t develop a hatred for him because we already knew him – we were used to his existence as a piece of sh*t that was always there. People around the country who didn’t know him and who were suddenly introduced to his degeneracy would have developed a hatred for him

See, you learned something today kid.

Are those defensive tears or tears of anger on your keyboard?

Nah those are just Trump’s tears. I use them to keep my keyboard clean of food and coffee stains.

See, you learned something today kid.

There was no other person that was president when the decision on the emergency authoriztion(s) was made.

I have no idea what your stomping out comment references.

Your estimate of yourself and of Trump is noted.

Kinda like your argument.

My argument is that for-profit companies produce products when the probability of making a profit presents itself.

A two billion dollar order creates that probability. A second 2 billion dollar order enhances that probability.

Pfizer stock price is up by about 30% compared to March 1, 2020- before the US order of vaccines.

Sure. So Trump ordering it once the product was developed is not some groundbreaking and brave act of leadership.

The product was still in development.

In May, the lunatic Dems were still touting the benefits of the useless masks worn as the death toll continued to rise.

US orders 300 million doses of coronavirus vaccine. When could they be ready?

The U.S. has pledged over $1.2 billion to develop 300 million doses of an experimental COVID-19 vaccine.

Almost a third of the doses from drugmaker AstraZeneca were secured by the U.S. after President Donald Trump demanded a vaccine, according to Reuters.

“This contract with AstraZeneca is a major milestone in Operation Warp Speed’s work toward a safe, effective, widely available vaccine by 2021,” U.S. Health Secretary Alex Azar said in a news release. “Getting a vaccine to the American public as soon as possible is one part of President Trump’s multi-faceted strategy for safely reopening our country and bringing life back to normal, which is essential to Americans’ physical and mental well-being in so many ways.”

A drug that is still not approved in the US and likely never will be used in the US.

So are you saying that Donald Trump was touting the benefits of something useless? Or just that he is a secret dem in disguise?

You really have to start doing a better job getting your stories straight.

From the Boston Globe's lone conservative voice, Jeff Jacoby:

I tend to agree. I like Biden's style in this regard.

When people say that about President Obama, what they really mean is "Obama is uppity...he didnt know his place" Nat. I dont care for that, President Obama is a very intelligent and humble man, not vain at all IMO.
He deserves our respect Nat. President Obama earned that.
You show some respect. (y)

oooops.......that one didn't work out so well! However, it was nice of Trump to spend that much money on a drug that has not been approved and is unlikely to be approved for use in the States.

"He isn't obnoxious like Trump was", is hardly high praise.

A drug that is still not approved in the US and likely never will be used in the US.

The linked article includes information on the various purchases of vaccines from various manufacturers.

The date of the article shows that the Trump Administration was making these orders long before there was a usable vaccine.

I find it interesting that the legacy media propaganda outlets ignored this and the progress that was being shown in the research.

Do you?

Masks, as it turns out, were amazingly ineffective in controlling the spread.

In March 2020, when we endured the "15 days to slow the spread", that turned out to b e closer to 400 days to slow the spread, masks were thought to be a thing.

Turns out they were as effective as wearing a crucifix to avoid the Black Death.

About 92% of the covid deaths were in those age 60 and older. I heard last night that more than 70% of Americans who died with Covid were overweight.

Going to the gyms, which were closed by the zealot authoritarians, might have helped the fat folks lose weight and be less vulnerable.

Go figure.

So Donald Trump was wrong?

As with most folks who consider every possible approach to find a good solution, he must have been wrong many times.

Edison said that trying 10,000 wrong options was a process that eliminated 10,000 wrong approaches.

Masks, as it turned out, were astonishingly ineffective in mitigating the impac t of the virus.

A friend of mine was morbidly obese in his 50's and died with Covid preaching the universal need to wear masks.

I knew someone who always wore a seatbelt but died in a car accident. Should we stop wearing seatbelts?

And you are wrong about masks.
