socialism

But some how and some way AMAZON is growing like crazy!

Yeah and?

Amazon growing like crazy doesn't change the fact Bezos mistreats his workers:

Maybe socialism is becoming more popular because of bosses like Bezos and worker control sounds more appealing after years of being treated like a robot.

By looking at how much things cost in a country, averaging it out, and reviewing what the employees make vs those costs?

Why does Jeff Bezos need to be a billionaire? What is the intrinsic value to our country in allowing anyone to become a billionaire?

None whatsoever-especially when one considers that most of the super-rich pay as little in taxes as they can get away with, while squirrelling away the vast bulk of their fortunes in offshore tax havens, never to be spent in the US to benefit the economy.

I don’t think socialism per se is becoming more popular. I think it’s actually been the 10 year boom followed by Trump telling us we have the greatest economy in history, and most folks just not feeling like they got anything from it.

My wife and I have discussed this even towards the end of Obama’s term: at some point this country is going to reckon with. the fact that a lot of money has been generated and yet most Americans didn’t see a dime of it despite creating it.

Amazon is the perfect example: Most folks don’t begrudge Bezos being a wealthy jerk. What they begrudge is the guy making billions per minute and not sharing that with the folks who helped create that wealth.

Billionaires are garbage. Look at Bloomberg.

So there is socialism out there?

Sharing wealth? My god, that's *gasp* communism! Hide under your bed. Now!

Not every part of socialism is becoming popular, but I think the idea of more worker control over their work places is becoming more popular with bosses constantly abusing their workers.

See, it’s not sharing. Those folks *earn* their money. It’s the shareholders and those at the top who simply “share” everyone’s wealth.

Corporate America couldn’t wait to “share” in our wealth when they gobbled up CARES money.

So there is socialism out there?

In terms of public policy, not really?

I just think there will be more people who find more worker control over their places appealing in the face of people like Bezos.

Careful or you'll be accused of envy by one of our conservative deep-thinking usual suspects.

Oh, god, OF COURSE I’D LOVE TO HAVE THEIR MONEY.

They’ve created a society where your life is based on your level of income. Whether you can get access to covid testing, whether your kids have a legitimate shot at success, whether your Black son gets to go home after being stopped for a traffic infraction.

Of course I envy the super wealthy. They’ve made this country their personal sandbox, using our laws to smack down the plebs when we get too uppity.

Nice work if you can get it.

Why does he “need” to be a billionaire. Who is going to determine the “need”? Some “Oceania” government worker who arbitrarily determines, based on their own ideology, what is a “need” and then arbitrarily determines Bezos doesn’t have a “need” justifying some amount of wealth and/or income?

I’ll pass at the hint there will be some entity telling anyone what their “need” might be and when they’ve made too much money. Which waS suggested by your use of the word “allowing” in your query. Social safety nets provided by the government is one thing, a government doing the very thing hinted at above is authoritarianism, and constitutes as State planning for the individual.

By looking at how much things cost in a country, averaging it out, and reviewing what the employees make vs those costs?

I’ll have to address this formula momentarily. I’m not ducking it, but at this moment I lack the time to address it.

By the way, welcome to the forum. Stick around, we need a voice of sanity.

I LOVE IT HERE! I’m a political junkie. This was true before President Orange Lipstick ruined my good time.

And thank you! :)

Something much worse "Late stage socialism"

1 Others criticize it for redistributing income to “people who have never paid a dime in their lives” but nevertheless “get a check from the government” (Sandmeyer 2013).

“Treat his workers better...”

The inference being the workers are presently treated in such a manner that is below some standard, below a standard that would be better. And what is that standard? How is that standard established? Where does the standard come from?

Do you see those articles I posted? Do they paint a picture of Bezos treating his workers well?

Not only that but your actual intrinsic 'worth' as a human has become measured by the stuff, including money, that you acquired along with societal pressure to 'keep up with the Jones'. How sad is that? 'Harvey just bought a new ride-on lawn mower, but mine's bigger-and cost more. Ha!'

It looks like to me that that Amazon employees are FORCED to wear masks?

I bet they hate it!

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but here in Britain Amazon have been airing ads on tv featuring happy, smiling Amazon employees exalting the virtues of slavery!
