My dad is the sole proprietor of a home remodel/building company (very, very small business). Recently, I've tried to offer my (as yet still limited) marketing expertise to help him garner more attention and (hopefully) more interested customers. In addition to getting him registered on Red Beacon (Home Depot's version of Service Magic), I've also created a Facebook page for his business.

Do you have experience with Facebook marketing? How do you utilize Facebook to spread the word for your business? Do you offer contests, coupons, or other incentives? Post market-related tidbits? Use certain key words? Advice, help, or anecdotes appreciated. Dad's business and financial situation are not great right now, and I'm really hoping we can help him turn a corner through our new efforts.

We did postcards once, but didn't get much response. Canvasing has been moderately effective.

Yeah, I know a couple that did the same and switched to just paper. I have a couple of them in the same field around me. Some of those in the neighborhood. Commented on how they liked the owners was going Round passing out his flyers or card. Letting people know that no job was to small. Not some kids or people passing out the flyers for the company.
