Players of the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa were attacked and abused/beaten up today during a friendly they were playing against French side Lille. It all happened in the Austrian town of Bishchofhofen. Five minutes before end of play the **** hit the fan. The referee immediately ended the game when several protesters (which is a too nice a word for them, hooligan morons would be better/more appropriate) stormed the pitch waving Palestinian flags and carrying with them protest signs.

It lead to a violent confrontation with players and staff from Maccabi (according to witnesses).

Here is what I hope, I hope that the EU will make it perfectly clear that such violence again will be seen as a form of terrorism and that the perpetrators of such violence will be jailed for extended periods of time. I have seen that there are nice and clear pictures/images of them which should facilitate arrests.

Political signs at soccer matches should be made illegal especially for such contentious conflicts as Israel/Palestina.

It's Europe. It's far more likely that the Israeli team will be condemned for fighting back.

I am not posting this in the news section and I can only post the source as soon as you are able to read Dutch because it was a Dutch news story.

And what I was trying to convey with this story is that anti-semetism seems alive and kicking because this was not about politics but of hatred towards these Jewish players.

You are presenting news, so it's nice if you post news sources.

You don't have to, but it would be nice.

I believe the rule is that as long as you reference "Israelis" and not "Jews" then it cannot be anti Semitism. Those fine individuals were simply engaged in fair criticism of the Israeli government.

Obviously.

In this case I think this is more a case of anti-semetism. Being critical of Israeli positions does not warrant a violent attack like this, that speaks of anti-semetic hatred I think. It is not like they were representatives of the Israeli government, these were just Jewish players attacked by (from what it looks) Turkish fans. This is nothing more than anti-semetic hatred.

Just like the anti-semetic songs and signs at games of my team Ajax Amsterdam. In which opposing fans (mostly whites and absolutely nothing to do with Israeli/Palestinian conflict) purely out of anti Ajax sentiment should "Hamas Hamas all Jews should get gassed" (or in Dutch "Hamas Hamas alle Joden aan het gas"). From time to time they even make hissing noises meant to be gas showers. That is true anti-semetism, just like this was.

That's not just wrong, it's scary. BTW, here's an English version of the story.

It is very scary, this attack on these Jewish players is hatred out of race/religion just like attacks on black and muslim players/teams.

The EU and especially the UEFA should take more stringent measures like banning people for life from soccer club membership and soccer team attendance.

These attackers from today should be arrested, jailed and then be banned by Fifa and Uefa to ever attend another game or play soccer for a club/team.

That is the only way to get rid of these racists and anti-semetics in soccer. It is a beautiful game and should not be married with racism, anti-semitism or even contentious politics during soccer matches.

Having lived in Austria for a long time I can only say: Typical!

A disgustin backwards country festering old, antisemetic, backwards, nationalist catholicism.

If you try to light up a cigeratte in Austria and it doesnt start burning/glowing properly, the Austrian slang word for that is "A Jud" which means "a jew" and is a refernce to the burning of jews.

The Austrian far right party FPÖ which has 27% in parlaiment is also known for publishing antisemetic campain adds showing a jew stealing money from Austrians and once a year they hold a memorial service for members of the SS.

The attackers were Turkish waving Turkey's flag. I also heard about a store in Belgium which refused to sell to a Jewish woman, the owner was, suprise suprise, Turkish. And after what you've written about whats going on in Germany we can see a clear pattern here.

This is the result of heavy incitement in Turkish media against Jews

Side note, I fell in love with our new Serbian coach (yea I'm a Haifa fan), I heard he threw some punches there to help his players
