And now they've found a great excuse for their disdain... him. Now they are boycotting American goods and whatever. But I've across these sorts of comments long before he was a thing, so this is clearly not because of him.

So, why haven't you severed ties with them yet? Why didn't you do this decades ago? Why haven't you done this even knowing the extent of their evils? I'm pretty sure there are countries that canada is sanctioning right now, and I'm pretty sure those countries have done far less bad than what the US has done. Heck, countries all over the world should have severed ties when they invaded Iraq, which if I'm not mistaken, canadians were against.

And now they are threatening to invade you, so wouldn't that be a good enough reason to break all ties and prepare?! Doesn't make any sense why you haven't done this.

Also, I've come across comments saying that canada will be able to weather the economic effects, and you got your european friends to look after you; you'll be alright.

My opinion is that the people currently in charge are attacking our country from the inside a lot more effectively than any opponent could from the outside. If I led a formerly allied nation, I would probably just keep minimal surface level ties to fool the powerful and stupid here, and, in the background, position / pick up the spoils. When (if) America comes to its senses, it's going to find a different global situation now.
