So tell me why Biden was breaking the law by paying Student Loans again.

One of the big complaints that was upheld by the Supreme Court was that Biden illegally redirected money from one Congressionally Authorized use to pay for Student Loans in violation of Congressional budget Authority. The Supreme Court agreed saying that appropriations and expenditures as directed by Congress could not be changed by the President.

Well that was then, ancient history. This is now, and the President is Donald Trump. Now, the law that prevented Biden from paying off Student Loans, is totally Unconstitutional. Or Something.


The Trump administration is preparing to test a 1974 budget law by refusing to spend congressionally mandated funds, senior federal officials say — an escalation that could change the balance of power between Congress and the White House.

Biden was a total Criminal for doing it. Trump is a hero for doing it. Ah how the times have changed.

This has less to do with government spending and debt as it does more relate to matters of Constitutionality.

But that said, I suspect that Republicans are trying to thread the needle on the difference between "refusing to spend the money" as allocated by Congress and what Biden did by redirecting funds allocated to one thing and use them for something else. Not spending vs spending elsewhere becomes the political issue *despite* the Constitution on who controls the purse strings.

The question we should be asking ourselves is why Trump is doing this.

We've long said Trump enjoys using the courts to his advantage at every opportunity and this is clearly another one. Trump likely looks at this as taking the Supreme Court for another spin to see if loyalty to the ideology trumps (pun intended) how funds are supposed to be used. It might work, it might not, but time is on Trump's side. He can continue to do whatever the hell he wants to until the Courts say otherwise, and even then it is not a sure thing Trump will abide.

Trump's argument about doing this because of our Debt position becomes political cannon fodder. It is not the real motivation, ability to do whatever he wants is.

I dont think the president should be able to divert funding that congress has deemed to spend on.

I'm one of those Sauce for the Goose types. If you tell me these are the rules that I have to follow, I expect you to follow them too. If you aren't, expect me to call you out on it.
