So far, no spike in coronavirus in places reopening, U.S. health secretary says - Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are not yet seeing spikes in coronavirus cases in places that are reopening but it was still to early to determine such trends, health secretary Alex Azar said on Sunday.

“We are seeing that in places that are opening, we’re not seeing this spike in cases,” Azar said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “We still see spikes in some areas that are, in fact, closed.”

However, Azar said identifying and reporting new cases takes time. A critical part of reopening will be surveillance of flu-like symptoms in the population and other hospital admissions data, as well as testing of asymptomatic individuals, he said.

'It's still early,' he said, acknowledging that the virus requires an incubation period before symptoms begin to appear.

Don't worry. Based on everything I'm reading you can be sure that the virus is just starting to take hold and that by the end of next week we'll see that spike everyone wants to see start to materialize. You can also be sure that this coming spike will be 60-90x worse than the one in April and that, in the US alone, we'll have tens of millions of dead. Frankly, I think the only proactive thing we can do is roll tanks into the streets and enforce the lockdown with the most harsh of military means. That's the only way we, as Americans, can remain safe and free.

No it won't happen next week, maybe in six weeks..

It's good to see, it will take some weeks to start to see the effects of lifting restrictions, but it's good to see that we can start getting this stuff lifted and back to normal. Hopefully the remainder of the opening goes well too.

Whew!!!

My ass was about to be severely chapped...until I read, "It's still early."

That means we STILL have a chance to defeat Trump in November.

That is hopeful. Fingers crossed.

Wisconsin had it largest one day increase yesterday.

We will see how things are two weeks from now...

Yep. Ideally we won't see spikes and we can resume reopening. What will also determine trust in the information on case counts is how active testing is; if it isn't, then we're in that model of "no testing = no new cases" which is obviously flawed. In that scenario we won't know until there's a really big impact.

Lutherf delivers more hilarity on the subject of our friends and relatives dying excruciating deaths. Bet he thinks the Holocaust is a wonderful source for "humorous" material.

Trumpists are the only people talking about being excited that people might die. As always, their disgusting behavior is justified by "look at what the liberals made me do!"

You know what's happening?

You post this in every thread.

So you think you see this all over the place. But really, it's just you. Every time. But you've convinced yourself the claim is common because you keep making it.

Are you suggesting that there is not a virus spreading across the country? That it's all a big hoax?

Okay, pretend I’m stupid. How are you going to establish there are new cases in the immediate aftermath of re-opening businesses and public places when testing isn’t widely available? Explain it to me like I’m in kindergarten.

Sounds like you are hopeful for a spike so you can blame Trump.

P.S. why did you like post #2. I believe post #2 was sarcasm or do you want to see tens of millions of dead?

China plans on testing all 11 million in the whuhan district.

So why say it?

Was that due to increase in testing though? In some places we're getting a lot more testing out there and confirming a lot more cases, so some of the rise may be from that.

Regardless, we have to watch the numbers the best we can as we open up and see if we can hold steady well enough to get the economies going again.

Oh, well we don't care about those folk too much, so long as they keep that meat a coming. Though you may want to make sure that you cook it properly and all the way through.

Nope.

Did my point sail right over your head? Or did you duck?

What's your prediction on the number of deaths? Are we at the top and they will trend down or will the continue to increase?
