In a meandering interview with Ainsley Earhardt on "Fox & Friends," Trump warned, “I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job. If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor.”

Pointing to his head, he added: “Without this thinking, you would see, you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe.”

So basically at this point, Trump isn't even trying to deny that he's guilty of any of the crimes he's been accused of. Instead, he's trying to argue that despite his crimes we shouldn't impeach him because he's doing a phenomenal job, and our entire economy would collapse and be destroyed if not for him and him alone in the White House keeping it afloat.

As if somehow our economy wasn't already doing fairly well before he came along. As if our economy hasn't been phenomenal at countless other times in the past with completely different leadership(most of which was Democrats).

Alright, Trumpsters... What's it going to be now? Your own president isn't even denying he's guilty anymore. Are you still denying it? Are you going to ignore a criminal president because apparently, our economy couldn't survive any other president besides him? Pence would destroy us?

Swampy is not only going on Fox News to use fox news talking points to defend himself. He is also talking about impeachment because republicans told fox news who told him that democrats were talking about impeachment.

So far the Trump-defense narrative is shifting almost exclusively into "You can't indict a sitting President." Plus the usual smattering of hoping so-and-so doesn't flip on Trump and that he shouldn't be interviewed by Mueller because he's guaranteed to lie. Oh, and that none of the people who previously worked for him and now speaking out against him should be taken seriously because they're all lying scumbags.

Definitely all the defenses of a completely innocent man.

Though I would love to agree with you....do we really know any longer whether Trump knows what he is admitting to from one minute to the next. This is the problem or at least one of them with a universally corrupt man and incomparable liar. Eventually he tells so many public tales that he no longer knows where he is in the telling of those tales. Trump contradicts his own stories now within hours of making them, sometimes within minutes, sometimes within the same sentence! Rudy is about in the same place.

I see why every sentence from a professional politicians lips is poll tested.

I'm not sympathetic to whether he knows if he's lying or not.

Their narrative shifts, which means there is awareness/calculation. The constant muddying the water is just a tactic. And it's not a legal defense.

The economy would breathe a huge sigh of relief as soon as Trump is not in a position to jerk the world markets around anymore.

I agree that the narrative does shift. But it does not shift based on past statements or any interest in maintaining a stream of thought. It changes based on the desire to survive the next 5 minutes, to push back on whatever the most pressing threat is this very minute, not the threat of a day ago or a week ago and not the long term threat that might be easy to see. Trump ignores all of it in order to throw a punch at whatever is standing right in front of him right now in this very instant and if the immediate threat even changes one tiny bit, he is willing to completely ignore past statements on that particular subject for a statement that is tailored to what he views as the threat that is right in front of him right now. He is as many have said utterly shameless.

What Crimes is Trump accused of? Not general, but specific crimes?

Cohen pleaded guilty to 52 U.S. Code § 30101 at Trump's order. And ordering somebody to commit a Federal crime is itself a Federal crime.

Ya. That's a stretch.

If by "stretch" you mean "that's what happened."

Paying someone for their silence is not illegal. Ceos and companies do it all the time with disgruntled ex employees.

Not really, if Trump ordered Cohen to pay hush money, then it is NOT a crime.
It is only a crime, if Cohen acting on his own paid Hush money with no expectation of reimbursement,
because it could then be viewed as an undocumented campaign contribution.
A candidate is allowed to spend as much of his own money on his campaign as he wants to , and for whatever
legal purpose he wants to, and paying hush money is legal.
One could almost say that the special prosecutor is suborning perjury, by allowing Cohen to plead
guilty to something that they know is not a crime.

Giving people hush money is something attorneys do all the time.

Also, no one forced stormy daniels to take the money.

52 U.S. Code § 30101 describes a Federal Crime. It's what Cohen pleaded guilty to and Prosecutors accepted that plea.

It is a campaign finance violation, where you give undocumented money to a candidate,
or pay for a good or service for the campaign, without and expectation of repayment, (I.E. a contribution).
If Cohen was, as he says acting on Trumps orders, then he fully expected to be repaid, so it was not a contribution.

And just think longview. You are having a conversation with someone that was voted the most intellectual liberal poster on this forum.

Scary!

It was Trump's money in the first place.

Then why would he plead guilty to it? He's a lawyer that is specifically trained in this exact stuff. Even Rudy at first said Trump wasn't stupid enough to pay cash. Until of course, he did.
