It wasn't stuatory rape, the age of consent is 14.
Ah, that does make Berlusconi's lot seem less unethical. But still, the difference between 17 and 21 is quite a lot in terms of maturity and responsibility, and there are still the other matters involved.
He's done everything he can to make it legally impossible for a sitting PM to be prosecuted, but the SC has ruled his legislation unconstitutional. Don't forget, he's not President, not the Head of State, he's just the Head of Government. I don't know that he would automatically be removed from office, but I can't imagine the cabinet meetings taking place in a correctional facility, can you? But then again, this IS Italy. They do things differently there.I'm kind of surprised that he's being criminally prosecuted while still in office. Then again, I'm not the most proficient legal mind when it comes to global governmental issues, but I thought a country's president had to be impeached or otherwise be removed from office before criminal charges could be levied. Apparently that's not true, but to those who are proficient in matters of Italian law, if he is convicted is he automatically removed from office?
Yeah, the problem is that it's illegal to pay for sex when they're under 18, and that he abused his powers trying to cover it up.

Whatever you say about his behaviour, you can't fault his tastes.
Not at all. It probably did happen with the limited information we are given at this point, or at least it doesn't look good for him.
No, all I am saying is that we must wait until all the facts are known, unless equal justice, and innocent until proven guilty in a court of law is only a nice saying when you need it to be.
j-mac
I thought that she said Berlusconi DIDNT pay for sex. Is she admitting it now?
Not really. Berlusconi has made a career out of subborning the legal process for his own ends, corrupting the journalistic standards of 70% of Italy's media and I think the likeliest outcome will be that he gets off, again. I think it's an amazing achievement of the judiciary that it has got as far as it has. I think you have to look at Italy in the same light as you would Russia, it's run more by the fiat of Berlusconi and his kleptocracy than it is by the rule of law. There may be a whole lot of red faces if Berlusconi is found innocent.
I think the likeliest outcome will be that he gets off, again
I shall be eating my hat, live on Skype and DP, if Berlusconi spends even a day in prison.

How disappointing! The truth has a knack of always being so much duller than the alternatives.

Maybe in the 60's when you was at your prime buddy.
Genuine beauty accounts for little these days (much to my disappointment).
LOL was not even born in the 60s!
