As a Libertarian I am for political freedom, but obscene and violent material should be regulated.
Many action movies glorify violence and teach gruesome methods of killing people. Some horror movies celebrate fictional serial killers?
It's a lot simpler than that. How does a Tarantino movie get NC17 but the Matrix 3 gets R? Look, the MPAA is made up of people who work in Hollywood. Executives for Disney, Warner, FOX, etc. There isn't a standardized system and there never has been. Hell, the gaming industry has done a better job at a rating system than Hollywood. Remember, this is the same industry that thought The Brady Bunch movie was PG-13 and so was Jurassic Park where people are literally ripped to shreds on various occasions.

Movies are already regulated.
There are things such as the MPAA Rating System (http://www.mpaa.org/film-ratings/).
And as a parent I have access to parental controls both through my cable subscriber and can limit by channels, by rating, and by time of day what be viewed on can my TV.
Same goes with my Netflix account, I control the parental controls and can limit what is viewed either on the whole account or for specific profiles.
So are you talking about regulating what comes into your home or what your kids view or are you talking using big government to regulate what other peopel view?
Can't answer your poll because you left out the option for "Parent should regulate what their children view."

What do you have against movies? People don't turn into killers because of a movie. That is crazy.
Actually the Libertarian position is to oppose government censorship. The more Libertarian position is to support an accurate rating system and then ensure the adults have to tools to make their own choices about media that enters their home. Regulating what goes into the home of others is not a Libertarian position.

That's so true. But I must say, while the Exorcist didn't make my head spin, I surely looked under the bed and in the closet before I went to bed. No pea soup either.

nobody will complain if you self censor whatever movies you want..... trying to censor them for the rest of us?... well, that's when we run into problems.
I like the idea of a rating system... that's how it should be. ( it's good governance )
you tell me what to expect, along the lines of objective rating standards, and I decide whether or not to partake.
They already are regulated. Children aren't allowed to go see R-rated movies without their parents' permission. I wouldn't mind seeing movie ratings include some more information, like why it's rated R (similar to TV ratings), but I don't think any more regulation than that is necessary.
I've been messed up in the head for most of my life, and it had nothing to do with movies or video games. Now if I had a gun...
There's also rope, pills, bridges, etc. Please, spare us your passive aggressiveness. It's QUITE transparent.
What are you trying to say, exactly?
What were YOU trying to say exactly, bringing guns into a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with guns? That's the question.
Why didn't you protest my involvement of video games?
Stop trolling.
Why are video games fair game in this discussion, but not guns?
What you are doing here, it's called "flaming." Stop being a flamer.
I'll stop being a 'flamer' if you stop being a steamer.
Are you using personal insults now too? Interesting. First flaming and now insulting.
