I think he was implying that a woman stupid enough to drink water until she dies over a nintendo wii does is not fit to add to the gene pool. I am inclined to agree with him.

I think that's a little harsh. I'd be very curious to have a look at the waiver she signed and see exactly what it said about the danger of what they were doing. I know many radio "waivers" are just about use of your personality, picture, comments ect. I'm betting the waiver wasn't very good as the show is cancelled and all involved were fired.

That aside, I cannot believe that this woman didn't have some clue that she was approaching a dangerous situation. I mean, come on, she had to get sick or an overly full feeling...something her body did to tell her "Wait!!! I don't need anymore water!!!"

When my body tells me. "Pee my son" thats a pretty good sign.

they shouldn't be prosecuted because it was a simply, harmless contest of drinking water. the woman should have known her limits

Isn't it time we said enough is enough of this stupid garbage that poses as entertainment, especially when the producers of this garbage are willing to put people's lives at risk "OH we had a realease".

No. A little conservative notion of "personal responsibility" needs to be taken here.

Yeah I agree somewhat though she was told that her body would make her throw up before she got to a dangerous level. That was false information but it does sound good you know. I can see how someone might think since they haven't thrown up yet they can push themselves a bit further. It sounds like something that makes sense! However a dr. would never have said that. She trusted them and that was stupid. She was given false information during the contest! And they should be held accountable.

And if they gave her that false information, it's just one more reason that they should be held criminally liable.

When you have several people calling in and emphasizing the danger and they shrug it off with jokes, there's a problem. Total blatant disreguard for the participants comes to mind. Whether the contestants heard these exchanges, I don't know.
The amount she drank was phenomenal-224oz in 3 hours! And she was given this water, not voluntarily and timely drinking it. Contestants were given 8oz bottles every 2 minutes at first, then every 10 minutes.
The headache she was experiencing was saturation of her brain, causing it to swell.
The average human consumes about 91 oz of fluids a day, including what's in food.
I generally am of the opinion that anyone who participates in these ridiculous games aren't playing with a full deck, but I also hold the originators and producers responsible as well. They are in positions of authority, making these contests-it behooves them to know exactly what the hell they're doing and the dangers involved, no matter how remote.
This reminds of the club fire a few years back, where the owners were sentenced for the deaths of 100 people. I don't think they were 100% liable, but they allowed that pyro show to proceed and should have been aware of the construction of their own club.

................................................

So they didn't know if it was dangerous... And then they made ajoke about itbecause they are supposedto try and be funny. But they aren't doctors, and I don't think they had any real idea that what was going on could be fatal. If you real prof they knew prior that someone was going to die then by all means string emup

People who agree to be contestants on radio shows don't expect that the radio show is going to ask them to do something that will kill them if done well.

And your assuming that the jocks knew this was a dangerous stunt and went ahead with it anyway?
If this was an accident "related" to the game but not something that a reasonable person might expect to happen that would be a straight up accident.

In this case however she was asked to do something that any dr. would tell her not to do!

There disk jokeys not doctors
Callers called in with warnings.

When did callers become experts? Have you listened to the radio. I have heardcallers callin and say that all black people should be shipped to Africa, is that a good enough reason to heed there advice?
The show show should have known better.

How? Why?
The DJ's were joking about the danger for heavens sake.

Joking..... They were trying to make it a little more interesting for the Audience IMO. Again .. do you ever actually listen to the radio, the way they play up bits? Your acting as if this is a confession of guilt, and it's not even close
And the woman probably thought the whole time she was fine because they wouldn't have that type of contest if it was really dangerous. Just like the loons eating the crazy **** on fear factor sign releases but don't expect that the show is going to feed them something that is actually unsafe.

But the truth is it is unsafe and an ACCIDENT can happen. Does that mean the show meant for it to happen even IF they knew there was a very slim chance it could occur. That is why they sign releases.
They eat gross stuff but the stuff is completely checked out. The show doesn't just get the waiver signed and then feed them whatever the hell they feel like cause they signed a waiver. The bugs and creepy arse food is all checked and monitored for saftey. This show was irresponsible.

Your kidding right? So there is no way harm can come to you swimming in rotting fish? Or dunking your head into animal blood.. Or eating various things of which you hae no idea what kind of reaction you might have
If this show had people come in and drink themselves to death with alcohol it wouldn't matter that the contestant had signed a waiver. They would still be held responsible for the contest. And I feel they should be for this as well.

BUt people are aware of the dangers of drinking tomuch alcohol. Water however I don't think people know that readily. I have heard this very game atleast twiceon the radio. And guess what nobody died....
As a business you do not ask people to do something without first making sure that what you're asking is safe.

You drink water and hold your urine all the time. This was the extreme but I don't think there was any intention of injury.
The fact that they talked about the possibility of death with laughter, ignored callers, and then the woman died is just sick.

You need to actually listen to radio occasionally i think.
Personally I don't think they should go to jail or be charged but I think the station should be sued big time!

So lets not put the fault to the woman who agreed to it.... God knows we would hate to see personal responsibility. If the Station knew it was dangerous and or this had been done before with the same results then I can see your point. Other then that I think it was a accident.

Well obviously callers are noted clinical professionals...... And god knows a caller would never ever misrepresent themselves.

How? Why?

Every radio station has a lawyer. The lawyer's job is to make sure that everything they are doing is "legit" and can be done while keeping them out of trouble. Any contest where contestants are going to be coming on to the station's property to participate in a physical activity should have been run by the lawyer, who if he is worth his salt, should have turned around and checked with a dr. to make sure the contest was fine. So either the station lawyer ****ed up or the d.j.'s didn't feel the need to run a physical contest by the lawyer in which case they're morons.

Not being a lawyer, I'm not sure what the sopis fordrinking water in the radio station. Sorry though... no matter what Ithink I will stick with personal responsibility. It's not like these guys are going to walk away scott free. For an accident that happened, they are going to loose there jobs & probably never work in there profession again. Iv'e listened to alot of stupid radio stunts. And I am betting most were not passed through medical professionals. I would be interested to read what the release said that she signed
