Should schools be allowed to teach sex education in schools?

What should be allowed to be included in school curriculum regarding sex?

What age is it appropriate to be teaching these things?

What are the pros and cons of teaching these things to students?

Should schools be allowed to teach sexual orientation and deviation from heterosexuality?

What about transexuality? Should that be taught?

If schools are going to teach this, should memos be sent to parents with the option of them skipping school that day or at least going to an alternative health class that day or week?

Do you think books like "Gender Queer" should be allowed (see links from and about the book below)? This book has been banned, but also has been shown in schools and currently the LGBTQ community is trying to get it pushed back into schools. I almost shared images from it, but they are so pornographic, that I'm not sure this forum would allow it.

What's with you and your "ALLOWED" polls? Sex Ed has always been taught in schools that I'm aware of. Seems like if you didn't have a class like that, you lost out...and it shows.

Sure. Part of life. Problem might be, here in America, is some of the adults are so embarrassed about sexuality that they freak out if they hear the word Wiener.
I actually agree that at a certain age (high school perhaps), that most of the sex education above should occur. However, it's completely inappropriate for younger children I feel.

Do you approve of the book "Gender Queer"? It has an image of pedophilia in it.

Do you approve of the pedophilic image in the book "Gender queer"?

I actually feel at a certain age (likely high school) most of the sex education listed above should be taught. Not appropriate for younger kids though

As I recall, sex ed was in freshman and sophomore years.

You are once again trying to stir up a controversy where none exists.

Also, abstinence-only is and has always been a huge failure.

What does that have to do with sex education?

It doesn't. You are being dishonest.

So you approve of the LGBT folks pushing the book "gender queer"?

Schools have been trying to include education regarding homosexuality, bisexuality, trans, gender pronouns and books like "Gender queer" into an education that started as reproduction and contraception education only. I'm wondering what folks thoughts are about this

Which schools?

Specifically which schools?

I'm fine with it.

Many

From your link:

In November 2023, the Movement Advancement Project reported six states explicitly require LGBTQ inclusion in curricular standards. One state, Connecticut, requires the state education department to develop LGBTQ-inclusive model curricula, but does not require the schools to use it. Four states restrict how ”homosexuality” can be discussed in curricula. Five states require advance parental notification of any LGBTQ-related curricula and that seven states censor discussion of LGBTQ people and issues throughout all school curricula. Data on the status of book banning was not available as this is a more recent and growing development that primarily plays out at the district and community level.
Inclusive school curriculum standards legislation would require the inclusion not only of LGBTQ+ people, history, and culture, but also Black, Native, and Indigenous people and people with disabilities. School environments with inclusive curricula are safer learning environments for all youth and have better educational outcomes (GLSEN, 2020).

So, a state's rights thing. But this doesn't answer the question: Which schools use the book you mentioned? This link does not say.

Anti-LGBTQ+ curriculum legislation would restrict or prohibit discussing LGBTQ+ people or topics. Rosky (2017) suggests that there are five types of anti-LGBTQ+ curriculum legislation: “don’t say gay,” “no promo homo,” “anti-homo,” “promo hetero,” and “abstinence until marriage.” While these laws stem mostly from HIV-epidemic-era homophobia, they also center narrow views of sexual and reproductive health that have been used to systematically discriminate against poor people, people of color, and people with disabilities (see Barcelos, 2020; Betts, 2021). Taking this a step further are laws that allow for discriminatory content in curricula. For example, Florida is allowing PragerU content to be used in schools, which includes transphobic content.

While anti-LGBTQ+ curriculum laws and legislation are often intended to apply only to a single aspect of educational curriculum—most often sexual health—their vague nature can be misapplied to limit inclusive education, programs, and policies.

So mostly it's bigotry.

But no sign of the book you mentioned.

This seems to be a Homophobic thread by you, not necessarily Sex Ed. I never read the book, as I'm not a Homophobe and feel that the LGBTQ community are valued citizens in America, and have rights like everyone else.

I also know that most Pedophiles are Straight White Males, and many times Christian nutters like priests, for example. What is the image you are allegedly disturbed by, tell us in a 'safe' way. Does it give you any feelings you'd like to share?

It’s difficult to say because I’m sure everyone would agree that classical literature should be taught in schools. Everything imaginable is within it. As for actually teaching sex education, I think it’s a lot to ask of teachers. I'm not against it I just pity the teachers having to do it.

My aren't you a sheltered prude.

I can guarantee you that any junior high school kid has seen much worse than this online.
If you can look at the photos of a blowjob and the pedophilic picture of a boy holding a grown man's penis and tell me it's acceptable here, I can post them possibly. Or if any of you know the moderators and if they would allow it, I'd post it

Thing is, he has been unable to post a link showing that that particular book has been used in any schools. He posted a link that did not include it.

IOW, he is throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks.

You have yet to identify a single school that is using that book.

You won't, because you can't. You came here once again to peddle bullshit, and you got burned. Again.

That's a private school that you mentioned.

Here's another site. It says some schools kept it on their shelves

of course...why not??
The purpose of schools is to produce socially, economically, & politically functioning citizens..............no sense in being dumb about what is out there.....

So you don't even know what the book is about? This post proves that you don't know what you're talking about since the "blowjob" was performed on a strap-on and both people involved were born female. The other "fantasy" was based off a graphic image on pottery from quite a long time ago.
