Should our schools teach the history of slavery and the racism that has followed/

It seems that many white Americans do not want their children to know of the history of slavery and the racism that followed. I know that in germany every school child learns about the holocaust as they want their children to knw what happened in the past so it does not happen again in the future. What is the old saying about if you do not learn from history you are bound to repeat it. Well it seems is happening in this country with the rise in white supremacy groups. So do you think that our children should learn about slavery and the racism that has followed or should they remain ignorant?

Schools should teach about slavery and how it was overcome and heroes regarding the end of it. Schools should not be teaching kids that white people are privileged and that the country is racist.

Do they teach that slavery existed in Germany and that white Germans are all racists and that non-white people have no chance at a future or career in Germany, ie "critical race theory" that only white people have a chance in life and only white people can save non-pure white people from their inferiority? That is CRT.

There is no rise is white supremacy in the USA, only the rise of corporate-fascism via the Democratic Party and the richest corporations and people on earth, who now control over 95% of all information outlets.

Your message is idiotic as schools have always taught that slavery and racism existed. Critical race theory isn't about the past. It is about the present and is the Democratic Party's and the super rich of the world's next efforts for racial, ethnic and social division in the present. No longer can the Democratic Party openly advocate for white people to hate black people. So to accomplish the same goal the Democratic Party and richest white racists on earth such as Bezos, Zuckerberg, Dorsey, Gates etc they now push for all non-white people to hate white people. It accomplishes the same goal.

The purpose of indoctrinating children with critical race theory is to instill racial segregation and ethnic division within the next generation of children. CRT is pure racism at its core. It has nothing to do with teaching that slavery used to exist.

On what do you base your conclusion that "many" white Americans do not want their children to know of the history of slavery and the racism that followed?

I've never heard anybody, anywhere express that view. There may be some nuts out there who would say that, but not "many".

On the other hand, if you're talking about CRT and the 1619 Project, those are not the same as "the history of slavery and the racism that followed". They are a very particular slant on those events, a slant which "many" people may not want taught in public schools.

Equating CRT and 1619 Project with "the history of slavery and the racism that followed" is either ignorant or dishonest.

Call it what you wish. The main stream media is calling it Critical Race Theory in public schools, so perhaps you could take it up with them.

Or perhaps call it teaching RACISM in school instead of CRT.

At what point did they stop teaching that? The issue of slavery was taught in the schools I attended from the early 70s to the mid 80s.

Fox News has categorized everything as Critical Race Theory and sadly.. since they have set the narrative... quite a few people have followed along.

Critical Race Theory is studied in Law School... if it is ever studied at all.

It is not in Primary or High schools.

This in nothing more than a culture war.
