Depending on your family, family members may pick your nose for you.
I am confused. You went to your sister's funeral and you brother and his adult sons live there. They are on food stamps. They haven't eaten so I can assume there was no food after the funeral? So you went to a store to buy groceries and then on the way home from a store they asked to stop at a store????? You didn't ask why before they went in? Did you not know they had these "food stamps"? Anyway, I find the story wanting.
You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose! :2razz:
I would suggest it depends on how good friends you are
Here is the situation. My brother and his sons live in another state. My sister passed away this month from lung cancer. I traveled there for the funeral and to visit. When I got there i found my brother and two of his sons had not eaten for two days. So i went out and picked up some burgers. After they had eaten I took my brother and his sons in my rental car, none of them have a car, to buy groceries which I gladly paid for. On the way back they asked me to stop at a store so i did. They came out with beer and cigaretts. Well needless to say i was pissed. I asked, how can you afford beer and cigaretts but can't afford food. My brother responded "the store accepted his food stamp card for beer and smokes, isn't that cool" I said hell no its not cool. My brother and his adult sons are on food stamps. So what am I to do. Turn in my brother and his sons.
I agree to ratting out the store.
I would not report the brother for that purchase.
You should tell your brother that you are going to show up again without warning some day and if the children don't have decent food you will call CPS. If he went all crazy in response, just repeat the warning and - later - do it. No food? Call CPS.

The funeral took place three days after I arrived. And yes I did know they were on assistance. I offered to purchase their groceries because I can afford to. I also gave my brother some cash before I left. And I bought him one of those fancy e cigarettes and asked him to quit smoking. We had just lost our sister to lung cancer. I was there for a week. I did not ask him why he wanted to stop at the beer store. This is not some made up story. You can choose to believe it or not. It dosn't matter to me either way. My brother has been milking the system for a long time.I disaprove of his choices that he is obviously passing on to his sons. He is still my brother however and I care about him especially at this difficult time in our lives.

Blood is thicker than water - family always comes first.
Always - no questions asked.
That's actually not what "blood is thicker than water" means. In fact it actually means the opposite.
" the full proverb is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", and refers to relationships formed by choice are deeper than those that are forced by birth."
Blood is thicker than water - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
...and goes back to Roman times (at least) to imply that the blood spilled (and bled) among fellow soldiers is more significant than from whom you were born.
YourOwnLinkSeriouslyDude? said:In modern society, the proverb "blood is thicker than water" is used to imply that family ties (blood) are always more important (thicker) than the ties you make among friends (water).
The "common usage" is stupid. The original meaning actually makes more sense.
That said, I know better than to be the pedantic twat who insists on correcting everyone at every social gathering.

Let's look at everything that is wrong with this situation. The OP has a brother that has been on food stamps for a long time. The brother has 2 children who are now on food stamps. Why does a poor man have children in the first place? If I couldn't make enough to feed myself, I definitely wouldn't have children unless I was sure the government would take care of them. They haven't eaten for two days, yet the first thing they are willing to spend our tax money on is useless drugs. The sister passed away from lung cancer, could it be from smoking combined with poor health? I get the general picture of a large, extended family of trailer trash who for generations has spent what little money they came across on all the wrong things, and a lot of that money probably came from our taxes.
My advice to the OP is get a 12 gauge and start shooting everyone in the whole extended family who is chronically dependent on the government for survival. That advice also goes for everyone else here and in the whole world. Think of it as a mercy killing.
My further advice to the rest of the world is to see what the liberal agenda creates. If you really want a coast to coast trailer park full of the worst kind of trailer trash scum imaginable, keep supporting these politicians who are "trying" to help the poor, and a good deal of the middle class. They don't want help, they want handouts so they can drink and smoke themselves into poor health so that they can later run up the costs of Obamacare as much as possible, for as many generations as possible. Do you really want to fund this inevitable future with your hard work?
in case you missed it, the children are adults in this case.
and given all the things we have to worry about, some guy spending some portion of his snap on smokes and beer just doesn't concern me that much. Certainly not enough that I'd rat out family for it.
When I was in my 20's, I ratted out a younger sib to Children's Protective Services. My mother was furious and said that it would ruin our relationship, which I suppose it has. I have never regretted my decision. But I don't know that I could rat out a family member for welfare fraud.
I am horrified, though, by the number of able-bodied folks, especially 20-somethings, who have decided that they don't like to work. I have had more than one say this, simply, to me...as if someone who has worked her entire adult would understand where they got the idea that working is somehow a choice. I guess once you give up your self-respect, the rest comes easy.

While I'm glad you decided to do something I still want to point out your blatant hypocrisy at complaining about "stealing tax dollars" while not ratting out your family. Stealing tax dollars isn't that big of a priority to you so don't take such a sanctimonious tone. Especially in light of this comment from post #252...I would like to thank everyone who participated in this poll.I want you to know that I never intended to turn in my brother and his sons. I am going to turn in the store however. This guy is stealing from the tax payers and I hope they close him down and send his ass to prison.
My brother has been milking the system for a long time.
