Possible reasons for tearing it down:
1) It attracts illegal immigrants.
2) It's French.
3) It doesn't represent American values.
What say you?

I really thought I'd never be able to say this -- but this is objectively the stupidest question asked on Debate Politics Polls that I've ever seen.

"Give me your tired, your poor; Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"
It sounds much more like the plight of illegal immigrants seeking refuge. Just saying.
Probably over half of Americans today are descended from people who entered the country through Ellis Island under the watchful gaze of Lady Liberty.
Iv'e only seen it in a text book back in high-school so I'm indifferent either way. It's just not a real place to me.Possible reasons for tearing it down:

And you covet our hockey players.
Although it would fetch a hefty sum at the scrap yard, probably best to leave the national symbol of "freedom" where it stands. People who complain so bitterly of immigrants should take a crash course in American history. America was founded as a melting pot of immigrants to begin with. Every American (except native American indians), by default, can trace their family history to find their ancestor who first came here as an immigrant. Anybody before that would be part of the wave of people who first got here, saw that there were inhabitants, realized that guns were better than bows and arrows, and basically slaughtered any natives who wouldn't sell them the land for a few beaver skins.
Actually, that's a subjective observation.
Those damn dirty apes!
I say move it to Kansas so the illegals can't see it.
I don't believe that the apes did it.
In any case they were on this planet before humans evolved.
I am not sure if your poll came to mind because you just watched planet of the apes or if it is because the President has brought the issue of immigration to the forefront of our media. I truly hope it is the latter.
I have been saddened so often by so many people that I know who seem to want to draw such a hard line on immigration. We have a land of opportunity and it is vast and no one gets to say to others who are searching for a better life that you should have come over a few generations back! I do have an issue with entitlement benefits to all and any born here or not but if some one wants to come work pay taxes find a safe neighborhood to raise a family.
The statue says give us your tired your poor your hungry; not come stay if you have a scientific expertise or your family has exploited natives in impoverished areas and now would like to move to Aspen. If we restrict immigration we should tear it down and replace it with a big finger.
The poor from other countries have always been used and abused by the economic system of capitalism but from hardship comes ingenuity imagination and the desire to live a better life than the one our parents lived and for the first time that is not happening because capitalism is being choked out by goverment. Every civilization seems to come to its downfall when the rulers take too much from the people. Hey we know it takes taxes to provide roads, a military, heck I'm even in favor of universal education but there is a point where private enterprise is better and helping people get on their feet is not the responsibility of the goverment. I keep drifting back to entitlements because that is everyone's biggest concern with immigration, as it should be how much will it cost should always be considered but if entitlements are eliminated some of the stimulus to move here is removed if we work harder to make all places in the world better places to live no one needs to move unless they don't like the weather.

You'd do well to rethink that.
