Our system makes mistakes. It always has and it always will. But we cannot allow the fact that it makes mistakes to make us fearful of doing what is necessary.
Wouldn't that include making sure the person is guilty before doing irreversible damage to them?
That is what trial by jury and Constitutional safeguards are for. Also, why there is an appeals process.
Jesus Christ I can't believe anybody voted yes.
Clear violation of constitutional rights. My god. Let's cut the hands off of thieves and stone people who work on the sabbath while we're at it.
People often express insane opinions out of anger on the internet that they would think twice about in real life. Let them blow off their steam so they won't be a threat to the community.
Texas recently discovered that they executed an innocent man. He'd gone through all of the appeals.
Nice try, but the opinion isn't out of anger, just logic, and I do advocate everything I advocate on the internet in real life, and I'm not a threat to the community, and many states already castrate serial offenders as it is, it's not an insane opinion.
Did I say anything about you? I just made an observation.
I'd like to support this, but it would encourage people who abuse children outside of their families to kill their victims-- if the penalty is the same as for murder, it makes sense to kill the only witness to the crime.
Of course, I don't support torture for any reason. It's unnecessary and it corrupts the purpose of our justice system.
You are confused and oversimplifying. Pedophilia is defined as a compulsive sexual attraction to prepubescents and early pubescents.
Ah, now this is a very specific kind of incident within underage sexual offenses.
many states already castrate serial offenders as it is, it's not an insane opinion.
.
I know I am late replying-cause I have a busy life and just not able to be around-but.. I will reply to this to tell you that you would do well to refrain on telling me how "I" feel and I am not confused. Never try to tell me how I FEEL!!!!!!!!
I call b.s. What American states castrate rapists?
None. But several use so-called "chemical castration." That's probably what was meant.
Physical castration appears to be highly effective as, historically, it results in a 20-year re-offense rate of less than 2.3% vs. 80% in the untreated control group, according to a large 1963 study involving a total of 1036 sex offenders by the German researcher A. Langelüddeke, among others,[7] much lower than what was otherwise expected
In 1778 Thomas Jefferson wrote a law in Virginia that contained a punishment of castration for men who engage in sodomy.[4]
"Voluntary" chemical or surgical castration has been in practice in many countries—reports are available from American and European countries in particular for over eighty years (chemical for circa thirty)—as an option for treatment for people who have broken laws of a sexual nature, allowing them to return to the community from otherwise lengthy detentions[citation needed]. The effectiveness and ethics of this treatment are heavily debated.
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is under the spotlight this week for helping grant parole to Wayne Dumond, a convicted rapist who had been castrated more than a decade earlier in what he claimed was a violent attack.* After Dumond was released from prison in 1999, he went on to rape and murder at least one woman, and maybe two. How can someone who's been castrated still commit rape?
How can someone who's been castrated still commit rape?
How can anybody NOT support killing child rapist?
It would be a good punshment for any violent crime.
1. It inhibits violence.
2. It limits the proliferation of criminals.
