Shots fired on Michigan State University campus; police ask everyone to shelter in place

Remind me, when were cars designed for no other purpose but to kill?

and yet, they are responsible for how many deaths every year ?

assault cars - don't we need to ban them?

There were 35,766 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2020 in which 38,824 deaths occurred
3 million people in the U.S. are injured every year in car accidents. Around 2 million drivers in car accidents experience permanent injuries every year.

crazy isn't it ?

you just want people killed with knives - how weird

I dream of a time when we rid society of violent people - and when that happens, nobody has to be shackled with any bans of any kind
Knives cannot inflict mass violence by an individual like a firearm can.

Like one cannot be on a high floor of a Las Vegas Hotel and huck knives at the concert across the street and hurt that many people.

If we had a problem with knife violence... man we would have a whole lot less dead people.

Isn't it kinda screwed up the that the Supreme Court struck down taking away the firearms from those who are under domestic violence restraining orders?

not really, an accusation isn't a conviction, losing Constitutional Rights is a big deal you know

Dude wasn't even allowed to have a gun
Suspected Michigan State University gunman Anthony Dwayne McRae, 43, was a Lansing resident who had several run-ins with police, court records show.

He was arrested in 2019 for possessing guns without a concealed carry permit, Michigan Department of Corrections spokesperson Chris Gautz told Bridge

this is true, but mass killing isn't the bulk of deaths where guns are used

but you know that already

Cars are highly regulated and require licensure to operate. ... so...

I do... How many unintentional knife deaths do we hear about per year.

The simple fact is that one cannot compare knife violence to gun violence. Knife violence kills waaaaay less people.

Violence against women is admittedly by you a problem.

Those that have a restraining order for domestic violence are still allowed firearms.

You see why those two things don't match up... right?

that's not at all what he meant.

but i give you an A+ for changing his sentiment of wanting little to no gun violence.

Cars are highly regulated and require licensure to operate. ... so...

yeah how's that working to stop deaths/injuries? its not - and nobody cares that so many people are killed an injured do they ?

and its not a Constitutional right

more dead wives/girlfriends/exes/daughters.

and the person you're debating has described to us how their daughter just lucked out and didn't get gunned down.

well it kinda IS what he meant

it would be like saying I want a law banning drunks from driving trucks and we can stop 100% of drunk driving with people using trucks !

that would be true - of course, they'd just cars ........ but hey, we stopped the drunks using trucks !!

...so...this guy apparently was prohibited from possessing a gun at all.

No license is required to possess a motor vehicle, while some states do require license to possess a gun. In most states if not all, a 16 year old can possess and use a motor vehicle on public highways.

No criminal background check is required to buy a motor vehicle. They're readily and legally available to felons, stalkers, domestic abusers and the generally deranged. Of course, my plan for criminal background checks as a requirement for possessing guns or motor vehicles would close that loophole.

I am not the one who brought up cars. But if we want to compare the two things... cars are heavily regulated, require training and licensure, require carrying insurance, and require one to register ownership with the State.

I would have zero problem with the same requirements for guns.

You?

I think because a restraining order isn't a conviction - its someone making an accusation and removing a constitutional right from someone and all that comes with it from an accusation alone is not right

A license is required for a motor vehicle to be useful. Let us not go down a rabbit hole of semantics.

Nothing changes until the Supreme Court changes.

You?

cars are not a Constitutional right and you don't have to have any of that to drive a car - illegals drive our roads everyday without training or licensing or insurance - don't they ?

but even with all the regulations/training/licensing etc they're killing 2X more people, injuring 50X more people ............ are you not concerned with so much death and harm?

Because some people break the law let us not have any law.

Makes sense.

yes it is ... make violent people use other weapons , don't stop violent people
no, he was simply saying that it would be great if we didn't have gun violence and only had to deal with things like knife violence (which would mean a hell of a lot less murders).

and then you took that and bastardized it.
