Shays on Foley handling: At least no one died

For me, what someone does outside of their job is their business. I can decide whether I want to judge them or not.


Both parties are guilty of this kind of behavior, but I don't know a lot of democrats who would stoop to this level and throw something in the face of someone else about something that happened close to 40 years ago. Some of us learn from our mistakes.
 
republicans...you know whats funny, and most hypocritical? you wanted us dems to 'let it go' when king george was selected....we have tried..after all the man is trying....trying our patience....that said.. when in this new century will you guys find it in your logical brains and hearts. to let mary jo kopeckne rest in peace, and except ted kennedys long, and i am sure, arduous, living amends,for her life , his mistake and his past drinking..
and in the same vein..when will you get out of bill clintons sex life and realize what he is and always was..a honored and revered statesman..
when it comes to the constitution, and its being mashed to hell...this seems to be alright for you,,as long as it is bush and company who is doing the mashing..... but of course , lets have it your way, and thank God no one died...and only young men were sexually abused by mr foley..and dennis hastart knew...yes we can be thankful of this..thankful that he has ruined several lives, and not one has died YET, in an unfortunate accident......

Kennedy broke the law to save his arse and everyone knows it. That does have a lot to do with it. And it says a lot about Teddys morals and his character….. But people were paid off and Teddy to this day is worshipped by the Democrats purely because of his name. If your a kennedy you can do anything and get away with it. Oops I forgot Michael Skakel, he finally had to pay but got away with it for most his life.


What does that tell ya?

In fact while we are on the Kennedys…….look at that families pattern of illegal activities and trials over sexual acts.

There are a lot of wonderful, honorable, ethical, moral Democrats around this country, TEddy is NOT one of them.

I agree both parties are guilty. But the Democrats seem to sweep theirs under the rug and justify questionable behavior. They however don’t give Republicans a “pass’ for the same things that they have done.

Ted Kennedy acted in a manner that certainly was not responsible and probably even criminal. However, shays comment is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shift blame. Can anyone remember the last time a politicians actually accepted they had did something wrong? And don't count the half-assed "well i did blank, BUT...."
 

First of all, I like Kennedy because of what he stands for. When he speaks, it is rare that I disagree with him politically. I find him to be articulate and intelligent. I believe that's why his fellow dems like him so much. He speaks his mind, and he isn't afraid what kind of repercussions that brings.

You're saying he broke the law to save his a$$? You are saying he intentionally drove off a bridge and killed that woman? That's a serious accusation. "[E]veryone knows it"? I certainly have never heard that kind of position before. He was negligent, but I can't imagine that such intentional. Your statement does not make sense.

When you don't like someone, it's very easy to judge them. So your hate for Kennedy is clearly based on your dislike for the guy. So judge him all you want. What I find rather odd is that you would assume his character had not changed in 37 years. You have got to be kidding me. I have changed based on my past experiences. You're unrealistic, and your hatred blinds you.

This was a work situation. He didn't meet the pages at a bar, or do you have evidence of such? He met them in the Congress and then pursued them.

Youre so right. Foley blames everyone from his childhood to present for his wrongdoings. He isnt taking accountability and is hiding in some lavish rehab place.

Politicians feel they are on a different playing field than the rest of us.
 
That's it. I can't figure out who is worse....Kennedy, Stubbs, Frank or Foley. I'm calling Gary Condit. He'll know.
 
I really don't know what's worse, the Senators crime, the fact that he was given a free pass, or that he has done nothing but say one thing, and do another for over 40 years. If you listen to the man who is challenging him for his seat, you will see just how ineffective this man has been for many, many years, it's about time someone let this hypocrite have it!

It's completely inappropriate for people to bring up Kennedy's actions, because they happened decades ago. It's far in the past, no reason to bring it up now. After all, it's not like a Kennedy would do something that was illegal nowadays.

Then what's the time frame where we can stop bringing up a Senate candidates past? And what subjects are off limits? I mean you people didn't seem to have a problem with it when it was GWB's war record, **** the left didn't just bring up the fact that he didn't serve in Vietnam they forged documents to make it look like he went AWOL, and what about George Allen someone tracked down someone he went to college with and stated that he remembered him saying the word "niger."
 

I think it depends. First of all, it was not a democrat in Congress who forged Bush's documents. Let's get that straight. Second, GWB's record regarding Vietnam was relevant when he was promoting the war in Iraq and, to some extent, running for president. It goes towards HIS character. There he was attacking John Kerry's service, and thus his service was up for discussion. For George Allen, this behavior of his has continued throughout the years--thus, it is relevant. It would be one thing if his "racist" attitude had not shown its ugly head since the "niger" story. But he had a Confederate Flag in his law office and a noose. And then he calls a dark-skinned person "Macaca" during his current campaign. That shows a possible pattern of racism.

Bringing up Studds regarding the Foley incident has some relevance, as there are resembling facts. I don't see the relevance in bringing up Ted Kennedy's situation. It would be one thing if Ted Kennedy was (1) speaker of the House or (2) minority leader. But he is neither, and what happened way back when had no relevance to the Foley issue. Kennedy hasn't done anything similar to that which occurred way back when.

It was a cheap shot, and I hope Shays loses his seat. He is an a$$hole.

And, BTW, when Republican Dan Crane had SEX with a 17 year old page he did not resign, his party did nothing but censure him at the same time they censured Gerry Studds, and he remained in office until defeated in a re-election bid a couple of years later.


There are quite a few Republican office holders at the national level who, like the Democrats who did the same, stayed in office after committing crimes and unethical acts. You are being hypocritical by not mentioning any of them.

And, like I said, the Republicans have continuously done the same, they've been two-faced hypocrites who tolerated criminals and scum in their ranks while crucifying DNP-ers for doing the same things.
 

Another example of misguided foreign policy is our support of Iraq in its attempt to take Iran over in the 1980's, under Ronald Reagan's leadership. We backed Iraq during that war, supplied them intelligence, weapons, money, and food. We did this knowing that Hussein had used chemical weapons on the Kurds, and was using them on the Iranians constantly during the war.

We also had Iraq removed from our list of terrorist nations, and tried to persuade other nations not to condemn Iraq in a United Nations vote regarding Iraq's regular use of chemical weapons to kill people. We did publicly object to their use of cw's, to keep up appearances, but did nothing to dissuade them from continuing to use cw's.

Somebody on another thread, to excuse our backing of Iraq during the war, said we wanted Iraq to win the war to keep the region stable. So I guess he thought that makes it okay for us to support Iraq's use of chemical weapons in the 1980's, but not later, when we finally objected to them. We actually allied with Iraq and helped the country in many ways while it was using the illegal weaponry, something we were well aware of.

Anyway, we helped create a monster in Iraq. Then, when our need for him ended, we behaved as if his use of tactics against the Geneva Conventions were an outrage. Kind of hypocritical.
