http://www.moonpublicity.com/mp/ said:New Shadow Shaping technology creates images on the moon that can be seen from Earth. Robots are used to create several small ridges in the lunar dust over large areas that capture shadows and shape them to form logos, domains names or memorials.
Later in 2009, this company will auction off over 40 sections of the moon that it has created to the highest bidders.
How is this permissible, that one company gets control over the moon?
When does the madness end?
Hoax.

Possession is 9/10ths of the law, allegedly.
How are they gonna get there?
It's BS.

Many people are strongly opposed to creating commercial images on the Moon. We would feel the same way if it were solely for monetary gain.
However, consider the big picture. What is the biggest problem in the world? Is it hunger? Is it illness? Is it war? No.
The largest problem is the inevitable extinction of the human species.
The other problems don’t matter in a universe without people. Any number of global catastrophes could and eventually will end live on Earth. It could be a collision with an asteroid, a deadly virus, a nuclear war, a supervolcano, a hypernova explosion or our own sun eventually swallowing the Earth.
Space travel is more than just footprints and flags; it is vital to our survival. Just as we back up hard drives in case they crash, we need to back up mankind on other worlds.
Who will do it? Governments? Forty years ago man walked on the Moon. Where have we walked since? It is time that we find a way. Creating images on the Moon provides a commercial incentive for turbo charging space travel technology. Shadows are only the beginning. These advancements will eventually place robots on other worlds building space stations and planting crops.
The full Moon will always be the same. Shadow Shaping only works during partial phases of the Moon using shadows that blend with its natural beauty. If shadows form a logo during a quarter moon, it will be a small price to pay for saving mankind.
Their promo message is just a bunch of corporate lies. They don't want to go into space for the betterment of mankind, they want to do it for profit and personal gain.
I can think of many more virtuous reasons to enter space that don't involve defiling something as timeless and sacred as the moon itself. .
It's not just the moon, either.
I've heard several people on this forum talking about owning uranus.
The profit motive tends to lead to more betterment of mankind than most other motivations. See Capitalism for further information.
Sacred?
I could argue that any square mile of the Earth's surface is more "sacred" than the entire Moon, because Earth's surface harbors Life and the Moon is sterile.
Having said that, no I don't want to see the Wal-Mart logo on the moon in hundred-mile long letters. I just don't think that portraying the moon as sacred and dissing the profit motive is the way to put the kaibosh on that particularly garish bit of advertising. The first Homeowners Association on the Moon will probably stop that with a simple advertising ban.
Moon ain't timelss, people're brief.Their promo message is just a bunch of corporate lies. They don't want to go into space for the betterment of mankind, they want to do it for profit and personal gain.
I can think of many more virtuous reasons to enter space that don't involve defiling something as timeless and sacred as the moon itself. I hope the law prevents these people from succeeding. If they want to advertise from space, they can do it another way that doesn't involve permanent damage to the lunar surface.
Their arrogance also presumes that corporate capitalism will always exist and therefore, in 500 years, humans will want to be staring at the same crappy logos. Not to mention, it presumes that everyone in the world wants to see their crap.
Calling it sacred is a valid argument, because to many societies it is. In most Asian countries, their festivals and holy days are based on the moon cycle. The Chinese calendar, for example, is lunar based. How great would it feel for those people to one day look up at their ancient and spiritual symbol, and see it littered with visual garbage from the Western world?
I think tampon companies should be allowed to advertise on the moon.
